of Enola, AR
May 20, 1946 - July 31, 2025
Betty Jo Tidwell, age 79, went into the arms of her Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ on July 31, 2025. Betty, also known as mom, memaw, Betty Jo, Ms. Betty and Betty Boop was born on May 20, 1946 in Hampton, Arkansas.
She moved to Mt. Vernon, Arkansas as a teen where she married and raised six children. Betty was blessed with numerous grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Her greatest joys in life were her children and grandchildren. Our mom loved the lord and she loved her family with undeniable love and devotion.
Betty was proud of her career with the Conway Literacy Council where she helped many families learn and succeed in reading; however, if you were to ask her today what her greatest accomplishments in life were, she would tell you, her family. She was strong willed, intelligent, kind, loving and at the same time the most stubborn human being ever known to man. She enjoyed driving in her car with the seat leaned back playing oldies music, especially when visiting her hometown Camden, Arkansas. She loved watching her grandkids sing and dance, she was always there to clap and cheer for them. Collecting pictures and memories of her children was her favorite pastime. She was passionate about writing and storytelling, especially stories of her childhood and youth. She loved her Indian heritage, anything pink, talking on the phone to her best friend Barbara, Betty Boop, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and The Wizard of Oz.
Her church and family history were dear to her heart. She had a special appreciation for the missionaries that served. She was the gentlest soul we have ever known. No one was ever more excited or appreciative to open a birthday or Christmas present than our mom. The heartfelt happiness and gratitude she expressed when her family or friends would walk into a room will never be forgotten. To say she will be missed is an understatement. She will be loved and cherished throughout the rest of our lives.
Betty is preceded in death by her two children, Kenneth Farrell Williams and Andrea Denise Williams, as well as her parents, siblings and spouse, Joseph Tidwell.

My heart goes out to the family and all who love Betty. I have known her since I was a child in church. She had a welcoming smile, beautiful long hair and a sweet voice. As an adult she recruited me to be a part of the Literacy Council and would not take no for an answer. She shared her passion for helping families learn to help their children love reading. It blessed my life to see the changes that program made in so many lives. Betty made that possible. I know she is in the company of all those she loves who have gone before her and will watch over those who are not yet finished with their own earthl journeys.
I am just now seeing this 🥺. Your mom was such a nice woman. So saddened by your loss. Prayers for you and yours. 🙏
Rest in peace, gentle soul. You were a kind and sweet Christian lady.
I was not born to Betty but she sure made me feel as though I was…I was loved and scolded right along with all her girls. She welcomed me into her home after my rented trailer burned down in '91 with open arms and a warm heart….one of the best summers of my life. She had warm presents about her that made you feel good just being next to her. She had the most beautiful hair and smile, she had a a gypsy soul, I'll never forget the way she hollered the names of her kids when she was mad….Betty was one of a kind and I will always cherish my time with her and her family.
Miss Betty was one of a kind. I met her when I was about 14. She had that long beautiful hair and that smile that let you know you were welcomed in her home and that you were love. I lost contact with her for many years but got to met her again about 3 years ago. She still had that beautiful hair. She will be missed. My heart is heavy but I know the Lord has welcomed her home. My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this this.
