David B. Hill, Jr.

January 24, 1926 - June 12, 2010

David B. Hill , Jr. (D.B.) took his hand from the plow for the final time on Saturday, June
12, 2010. "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the
heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die: a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted:" Ecc 3:1,2

D. B. was the eldest of four children born January 24, 1926 in Oppello to David and Irene (Ledbetter)
Hill. Most of his life was spent in Martinville on the farm he dearly loved. He was a
perfectionist with his crops and cattle and took pride in his land. He lived his life as straight as the furrows he plowed.

D. B. was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Faye Moreno.
He is survived by his wife Donna Belle Hill and a daughter, Emily Hill of Martinville, a sister, Jean Dyer of Charlottesville, VA and a brother, Charles Hill of Bee Branch, AR. He was fortunate to have many nieces and nephews and their children who remember him teaching them life on the farm, taking tractor rides and taking care of the animals.

D. B. served in WWII and saw action with the 1st Infantry Division. He returned from the war and married his soul mate, right hand, and wife, Donna Belle Bughman. Together they farmed at a time when small family farms were viable enterprises. He worked with Donna Belle to maintain the Martinville Cemetery with support from his neighbors. The last three years, he made many good friends at Greenbrier Nursing and Rehab as he cared for his wife there and other residents as well.

Funeral services will be at Roller McNutt Chapel in Greenbrier, June 15, 2010 at 3 pm. Don Stephens and Todd Stephens will hold the service. Burial will be in Martinville Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday, June 14, 2010 from 6pm to 8pm.
Pall bearers are: Ralph Webb, Charles Riddle, Freddy Tindall, Grady Martin, Gerald Fitzgerald, Sidney Fitzgerald. Honorary pallbearers are Nick Mahan, Dwight Kellar and Drew Kelso.
Memorials may be made to the Martinville Cemetery or St. Judes Children's hospital.
A special thank you to Freddy Tindall for his tireless devotion to D.B. and the family. Also, a thank you to Greenbrier Nursing and Rehab for their kindness and special care during his recovery from an accident in February and the ensuing cancer that took his life.

"A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loveing favour rather
than silver and gold." Proverbs 22:1.

Dear Donna Belle and Emily,

It was just Tuesday when you and I visited at the Martinville Cemetery and you told me of his cancer. It is so hard to believe he is already gone. I have such special childhood memories of your Mom and Dad as we traveled to Martinville for Bible Schools and gatherings. I always thought he was so wonderful, handsome and took such good care of his home and land. Your tribute of your father is wonderful and gives anyone a special look into the life of a man who is an example to us all. I know you are proud to be his daughter and your Mom was blessed to have such a special relationship with him.

You are in my prayers as you grieve your Dad. No one can take our fathers' places and he will live on in all the memories and wonderful stories. Those are the things that keep them with us.

Love,
Rita

Our deepest sympathy goes to your family in the loss of such a special man. Words can't describe him, but your obituary is certainly a wonderful tribute to the man that D.B. was. My Dad sure thought a lot of him. He will be truly missed by many. May God bless & keep you during your time of sorrow.

I was shocked to learn from Dad tonight that your dad has passed on. I had not known of his cancer, but knew he had struggled to recover from his wreck.
I have nothing but wonderful memoried of your mom and dad and your home. He was a fine man and you were blessed to have him as a husband and a father. May God hold you in his arms and comfort you in your loss. We will be praying for you.
