Betty Loucile Burdine

of Harrison, AR

February 7, 1936 - July 31, 2025

Betty "Loucile" Burdine, age 89, of Harrison, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 31, 2025, in Jasper. Loucile was born on February 7, 1936, in Mt. Judea, Arkansas, to Frederck Joseph and Hester Hosanna Foster Hefley.

She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Jasper and later the Falling Water Church. Loucile's life was a testament to her faith and love for her family. She graduated in 1953 from Mt. Judea High School. She married William Burdine on May 6, 1955, at the old Baptist Church in Jasper, celebrating 57 years together.

She received her bachelor's degree from Ouachita Baptist University in Education and taught English. She was the girls' basketball coach at Deer High School for over thirty years. She was an exceptional dessert cook, especially her blackberry cobbler, using the berries her husband picked. She also enjoyed writing poetry and songs.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Irvin Burdine; her parents; three brothers, James C., Howard J., and Johnny Hefley; her sisters, Jimmie Fern Winstead and Freddie Gelease Walker; her grandson, James Nathaniel Burdine; her grandson-in-law, Aaron Pawlonek, and countless grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends.

She is survived by her loving family, including her sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Becky Burdine and Boyce and Carol Burdine; her daughter, Mary Alice Burdine; her twin sister, Mary Louise Stewart and Patricia ''Patsy'' Henderson, all of Harrison. Loucile's legacy continues through her grandchildren, Amy, Lacey, Brian, Hannah, Russell, Jon, Nikki, Pam, Hope and Noah and eighteen great-grandchildren, and a host of dear family and friends.

Visitation was held on Monday, August 4, 2025.

The funeral service was also held on Monday, August 4, 2025, with Jon Burdine officiating, with both taking place at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.

Interment was at Mt. Judea Cemetery.

Pallbearers were her family and friends. Honorary pallbearers were the students and faculty of Deer Schools.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church Youth Ministry, PO Box 407, Jasper, AR 72641 or Angel Works, 106 Spring St, Jasper, AR 72641.

Rick and I loved Aunt Loucille. She was so smart and such a fun lady. I loved to watch her entertain singing her songs and dancing. I remember how she would exercise with her jumping jackets, sit-ups, etc. She had so much spunk (as all the Hefleys did). I will always remember her laughing and having fun. I know that's what she's doing now with her all family in Heaven. She will be missed on earth but I look forward to seeing her again.

My condolences to Billy, Boyce, Mary and the rest of the family. I was quite fond of Lucille and enjoyed our talks as adults. Hopefully, she forgave me for being such a brat in high school. May she rest in peace.

Lucille was a founding member of our community and a close family friend. I loved her as a teacher and a friend. She was always willing to help anyone in need. I loved listening to her sing and listening to her laugh at her own stories. She was one of a kind and will be deeply missed.

Billy, Boyce, Mary, so sad to hear of your mom's death. The loss of one's mother leaves such a hole in a person's life and heart, a void that will never be filled ever again.
I feel blessed to have had her as one of my teachers at Deer. She had such a wonderful outlook on life, such an awesome humor, and the ability to find the amusing side of most situations.
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
Bev
