I'm going to miss you Big Monty…we love you!!
Rest in peace uncle Monty.
Uncle Monty, you truly were one of a kind. Your "attitude," whatever its origins, certainly ruffled some feathers during your lifetime. Yet, beneath that formidable exterior was a dedicated worker, a good father, and a natural leader when the situation called for it. Perhaps your unique presence instilled a bit of fear in others, but I never felt it. I always saw you for who you truly were and could appreciate the things you brought to the table. (Until we'd butt heads.)
I'll always cherish those Christmas memories from when I was a little kid. You'd call us over, hand us a crisp $20 bill, and watch us light up as if we'd won the lottery. That was your way of showing affection, your quiet words of endearment, much like Pop.
I loved your devotion to both God and Elvis â€" two seemingly different passions, yet Elvis certainly could sing about God! I'm still not certain that God sang about Elvis...Everytime I saw that name, I thought of you and the other Sherrill men. I believe I was the only Sherrill girl who shared that same fascination.
Well, you've made it to your next destination, and I truly pray that Nanny, Pop, and Gary were all there to welcome you home. Save a seat for the rest of us. We'll see you there when we see you.
RIL, Uncle.
