Marilyn Brewster

of Little Rock, AR

October 23, 1949 - March 9, 2023

On March 9th, Marilyn Turner Brewster passed into heaven
after a long battle with cancer. Marilyn was born on October 23,1949, third child of Orville and Florence Turner, in Enid, Oklahoma.
The family moved to Arkansas when Marilyn was five. She was a 1967 graduate of Little Rock Central High School. She served as Editor of the 1967 PIX yearbook. She earned her BSE and MSE degrees from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

Marilyn worked for the Little Rock Public Schools for 45 years, serving as a teacher of American History at her alma mater, LRCH, from 1971-1986. She served 30 years as a senior high Assistant Principal at LRCH, Hall High and Parkview Magnet High Schools. Students in her classroom will remember her love of history and her ability to impart information in a storytelling format. She will be remembered for her wit and sense of fairness. As a school administrator, Marilyn helped young adults learn to make better decisions and to overcome consequences of poor choices they had made. She made many valuable friendships with colleagues from the three campuses over her 45 year career. She retired in 2016.
Marilyn loved to travel, visiting San Francisco, New York, Seattle, New Orleans, Chicago, San Diego stateside. In her younger years, she travelled to London and southern England, Italy, France, Switzerland, Belgium, and Austria. Once she retired, she took memorable trips to both Iceland and Ireland.

She took great pleasure in her flower garden, often saying it was where she felt the most at peace. As an adult, Marilyn was a member of St. James Methodist Church in Little Rock.
Marilyn is predeceased by her parents, Orville and Florence Turner, and her older brother, Gerald. She is survived by one son, Jason Brewster, of Rogers, Arkansas. His adoption as a newborn was the transformative blessing of her life; sister, Carol Burton of Meridian, Mississippi; niece, Ann Carol Purvis and nephew, John Burton also of Meridian, Mississippi; sister-in-law Barbara Turner of Little Rock; nephews, Scott Turner of Little Rock and Steven Turner of Cabot, Arkansas. Her cats had a special place in her heart: Snickers, Nelson, Bailey.

The family extends their gratitude to Kayla Bogle and her team at First Choice Senior Care, and Bridgett Graves RN and her team at Hospice Home Care for their compassion and professionalism during Marilyn's care. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Pulaski County Humane Society or a charity of your choice in Marilyn's memory

A graveside service will be held at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander, Arkansas on March 22nd at 1:00 p.m.

I was a teacher and coach at LR Hall for 27 years and served as an assistant principal for 8 years. I didn't have to pretend to be an assistant principal, because threw God's Grace, Marlyn gave me the help that I needed. We had many responsibilities together. We really enjoyed working with New Teacher Orientation, Boys & Girls State, Baccalaureate and Graduation. She helped me to have my Miracle as an assistant principal. God bless her forever!! To the Brewster family please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. She taught many years side by side with my sister at Central. I remember hearing my sister mention her name on many occasions. Always know that God is standing right beside you and all you have to do is call no matter how large or small.

I grew up in Broadmoor and the Turners were our next door neighbors. I have many fond memories of Mr. and Mrs. Turner and their family. I always looked up to Marilyn.

She accomplished so much in her life. It saddened me to learn of her passing. Rest in the knowledge that she's healed and whole in heaven.

God bless,

Judy

Ms. Brewster was a very dedicated administrator. She was tough but always fair. She set the bar for anyone fortunate enough to have worked with her. Her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched in her role as an educator. She will be deeply missed.

Marilyn was always known for her big smile and ability to speak a kind word in almost any situation. High school classmates often lose touch as we advance in life but it’s obvious that Marilyn had many lifelong friends who will miss her. My sincerest condolences to all who loved her.

I’ve known Marilyn since junior high and then at Central High School. Much later I had the privilege of working under her as a teacher at Hall High School—when my son was a student there. She was a top quality person and it always showed in everything she did. It saddens me to know she’s no longer with us. Blessings and prayers to all her family.

Marilyn was a wonderful person. As fellow LRCHS students we enjoyed our time at the school and she was always happy and a good friend. She did a marvellous job creating our 1967 Pix and will be remembered as a hard working student. May she rest in peace.

Oh how I will miss my dear buddy Marilyn...we go back to age 10 years old and were as close as ever when she passed away. She left us way too soon. My best comfort is knowing her sweet mom is with her now, hugging her every day. Only wish I could.. Marilyn left lots of wonderful memories, and a garden of beauty for all to cherish and enjoy. Hugs to all her family and friends. Marilyn will always be in my heart!!!!!

I will miss Marilyn, going back to our Broadmoor neighborhood and first grade; and we still visited at least every year. All of our 1967 LRCHS classmates owe a significant debt to her for our wonderful PIX; and I still open and consult mine every month. I will miss you! Charlie Wood

Marilyn’s passing leaves a deep void in my life. We were best friends since our years in elementary school through high school.
In our last years we’ve maintained daily communication and I already miss her so very much. She accomplished so much in her life and served the community with her years of dedicated service in the Little Rock school district as a teacher and administrator. My heart goes out to her family, Jason, Carol, John, Barbara, Steve, Scott and Summer.
