of Edgemont, AR
November 24, 1946 - August 19, 2021
John David Smith, Sr 74, of Edgemont, AR, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2021 at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro, AR.
John was born in Earle, AR, the son of Leonard A Smith and Fannie Lee Smith (Taylor).
John was a skilled tradesman his whole life and loved to design and build using his God-given talent. John began his career as a Sheet Metal Worker at a very early age. Later, John and Pauline, purchased Hill Creek Marina and also opened Greers Ferry Heat & Air in Greers Ferry, AR
John enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, traveling and attending as many Ole Miss games as he could. John was a hard worker and had a heart of gold. John enjoyed many years of traveling with his family and he enjoyed eating really good seafood. John also enjoyed spending time with his many friends and truly loved his family. John's grandchildren were especially important to him. From attending the ballgames, to teaching them how to drive, to attending their high school events and later their graduations, he was very proud of each one of them. Although he had a VERY special place in his heart for his granddaughter's, watching and coaching baseball with his grandson, Tyler, was his very favorite thing to do. It was his favorite thing, because it gave him the ability to help him and a purpose. He wanted to matter to his family and he touched the hearts of each one.
John is survived by his wife Pauline, son John David Smith, Jr (Amy) Heber Springs, AR, Tina Montgomery (Kevin) Olive Branch, MS and Jennifer Dennis (Steve) Cabot, AR, brother, Leonard Smith (Betty) Clayton, NC, his grandchildren Logan Smith, Savannah Dennis and Tyler Dennis as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard A Smith and Fannie Lee Smith, his sisters Martha Adams, Ola Mae Russell and his brothers Frank Smith, Hamp Smith and Ralph Adams

The Rhodes Family
John was a great man. I don't say that lightly. He DID have a heart of gold and would do so much for the people he cared about. John and Pauline have been good friends of ours for many years. We first met the first year they bought the marina. Bill and Jane became good friends of theirs too. These two have touch the hearts and lives of too many people to count. People used to ask us if John and I were brothers...we aren't related by blood, but I will always proudly claim him as my brother.

My love and my prayer for constant peace and understanding in this time goes to the entire family. I know it’s so hard for the kids and grandkids. John was a second dad to me. I grew up being best friends with Jennifer living across the street from John and Pauline. I worked at the marina and basically lived at their house through high school. My dad and John were best friends and worked in the heat and air business together sometimes. I know that John and dad are upstairs telling big fishing stories now together. Last time I was in town, I stopped in to see John and Pauline. I’m so glad that I did. So many memories and laughter and pictures and videos that we have will keep his memory alive. He had an infectious laugh that even now makes me smile thinking about it. Much love to you Jennifer and Pauline and the entire family.
So much and respect for John. He was a great man and a wonderful teacher to many of the youth in the area. Admired by do many of us for his character, integrity and natural willingness to help other. Many prayers as you rest high and in peace. ðŸ™â¤ï¸ðŸ˜¥
