of Little Rock, AR
July 31, 1938 - June 24, 2021
James (Jim) Wakefield Young Sr. passed away after lengthy battle with Alzheimer's on Thursday, June 24th at the age of 83 in his hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born July 31, 1938, in Nashville, Arkansas to parents Odell and James Young.
Jim attended Hendrix College and the University of Arkansas where he was a Sigma Nu. He then attended UAMS and graduated with a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree. While working as an intern at 7th & Main Drugs he met his future wife, Brenda Frazier who he proposed to a year later at the drive-in movie theatre. They then married in 1966.
Jim went on to work as a pharmacist for Clinton Pharmacy and eventually became the owner. For over 30 years Jim treated his customers like they were part of his family. He was available 7 days a week and often took phone calls after hours making sure all his customers were well taken care of.
Jim's love of outdoors was especially important to him. He spent a lot of time at several hunting clubs and a cabin he built with a friend in Clinton, AR. Later in life, he also enjoyed hunting in Murfreesboro where after 60+ years of hunting he was finally able to bag his trophy buck.
When he was not hunting, you could find him on the golf course with his many friends at Pleasant Valley Country Club. He loved going on golfing trips to Arizona & South Carolina with these friends every year.
He and his wife Brenda were blessed to have 54 years of marriage. Together they raised their son James Wakefield Young Jr. who shared the same birthday as his father. Jim was smitten with his 2 granddaughters. He loved reading to them, taking them for walks, teaching them how to work on the computer and showing them off to friends.
Jim is survived by his wife Brenda Young of Little Rock; his son James Wakefield Young Jr. (Emily) of Little Rock; granddaughters: Savannah and Harlow and a host of cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his in laws, Aline & Jess Frazier.

"Jimmy" and I were cousins, although I don't remember knowing him when I was a kid since he was about 13 years older. Our fathers were brothers, but our family only went to Arkansas once a year to visit. His dad, "Uncle JimTom" was always my very favorite uncle. I met Jim at a funeral in Arkadelphia a few years ago and thought he was one of the nicest people I'd ever met. I wish I had gotten to know him better.
I was fortunate to visit with Jim at JCHC. His kindness and goodwill was so obvious. It was a wonderful surprise to find out that he was married to one of my high school classmates. Kim and I share in your loss.
Our deepest condolences on the loss of your Father

I am so sorry for your loss! I have such wonderful memories of working for Mr. Young at Clinton Pharmacy while I was in high school. He was such a kind man. Your family is my prayers!
I'm so glad that the Clinton Pharmacy card was in the Welcome Wagon basket delivered to us when we moved to Little Rock in 1978. We became regular customers at the pharmacy and got to know Jim. He was such a pleasure to do business with. John enjoyed getting to know Jim on a more personal level while hunting together. I'm praying for Brenda and Wake. I know you will miss Jim tremendously.
So sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. I so enjoyed my time practicing pharmacy with him and “covering†for him at Clinton Pharmacy while he was chasing deer and “birdiesâ€. Brenda, Wake he loved y’all so much and I know his kindness, love and smile will be missed.
Godspeed Jim Young. You and Bo were my first employer
I have great memories from those days!
Brenda you are in my thoughts and heart
John

Brenda,
I am so sorry to hear of Jim's illness and passing. Such a lovely man, good to the core. I have many fond memories from working at the pharmacy as a teenager and working with Jim was always the best. Thinking of you and your family.
My condolences to your family.
Jim was kind, gentle and always had a smile on his face. I will never forget that Jim taught me Sudoku 14 years ago, the day Savannah was born. To this day I enjoy Sudoku every morning,. I will miss Jim very much.
