Theodore "Ted" Neal Odegard

of Gassville, AR

October 11, 1953 - August 2, 2020

Theodore ''Ted'' Odegard, age 66, of Mountain Home, passed away on August 2, 2020, at Hospice of the Ozarks. He was born on October 11, 1953, in Rantoul, Illinois, at the Air Force Base hospital to the late Ralph and Anna Odegard.

In childhood, Ted moved with his family throughout the country to Maine, South Dakota, Arkansas, Puerto Rico, California, and Louisiana. His family settled in Mountain Home, where his dad retired. Ted graduated from Mountain Home High School in 1972. Soon afterward, he married the love of his life, Terrie. Ted and Terrie were married for 40 years until her passing in 2014. They had two children, Timothy and Tabetha, and also a ''borrowed'' daughter Abbie Tanner.

Ted was a dedicated Wal-Mart employee for most of his life. He was Store Manager in Harrison, Arkansas, and managed other stores throughout the South. After an early retirement, he re-entered the workforce serving as Director of the Boone County Library in Harrison. He later moved back to Mountain Home to be closer to his family and worked at Wal-Mart in Mountain Home until his second retirement earlier this year.

In his spare time, Ted was an avid reader, especially of science-fiction. He also loved fishing and being on the water. Most of all, Ted cherished spending time with his family. Ted will always be remembered as a dear and special dad, Pop-Pop, brother, and uncle to his family, and as a kind and thoughtful friend to all who knew him.

Ted is survived by his son Timothy, daughter-in-law Mona, and grandson Jude Odegard of Murfreesboro, TN; daughter Tabetha and son-in-law Kenneth Riggins of Compton, Arkansas; daughter Abbie Tanner of Harrison; sister Julie and brother-in-law Jody Dykes, brother Ron and sister-in-law Sandy Odegard, and brother Reggie Odegard all of Mountain Home; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2020, at Roller Funeral Home, 25 CR 27, Mountain Home with Jeff Quick officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the graveside.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Baxter County Library, 300 Library Hill Lane, Mountain Home, AR 72653.

I worked for Ted in Houston at Walmart #849. I was 19 years old. I’ll never forget his kindness and his encouragement.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Ted’s passing. We went to school together at Mountain Home and graduated together in 1972. He was always one of the friendliest people I have ever known. I lived in Jacksonville, AR when he was at Walmart there and got to visit with him. I think it wa around 1980 or 81. My prayers are with the family. I remember Reggie too. Rest In Peace Ted my friend. God Bless.

Tim, Tabetha, and Abbie ,
You were blessed with a kind, loving father who cared for his family. In today's world, that type of father is hard to find. He was very devoted to each of you in his own way. He had a special way of sharing and advising, which wasn't always the way you wanted but he was looking out for you. He was always kind to my grandchildren, Katie, Jake, and Abbie, and he was generous in his counsel to them, too. I enjoyed listening to some of his stories, although I wasn't around him a lot. He had a beautiful sense of nature and lovingly shared it with you, too.
Take care and know that he is still around...in some way. My heart goes out to you as you go through this journey. May you fine peace and happiness in the many great memories you're blessed with.

Tim, Tabitha, and families, my deepest condolences. While I don't have any singular memory of Ted to share, what has remained me since our teenage years is how I was always welcomed at your house. Kindness and hospitality are what I think of as I remember your father.

With deepest affection, Brandon, Patti, & Alex Wise

When I was in high school, a bunch of us hung out with Tim’s cool parents. Ted and Terry put up with us showing up at all hours and sometimes probably wishing we would leave. They always made us feel welcome. Even after college, they still treated us all like family. What great people and they leave a precious legacy to so many. We love you all!!

So sad to read of trespassing. I wish you all his relatives the very best in the future. I truly enjoyed sitting and talking with Ted in the break room at Walmart and talking to him as we passed in the hall now and then. Perhaps he is now having a few conversations with my wife, may he rest in peace and in the love of God.

Ted was such a kind man. He trained me how to work in the claims department with him, he was always so patient. He enjoyed music and challenging his co-workers on what songs were playing and who the artists were....he usually won! No matter how busy he was, he always had time to say hello and an inspiring word or two. He counseled so many of us on so many levels. He was a kind man who greatly loved his family and missed his wife Terrie immensely.
Ted will truly be missed. Praying for your hearts to heal, and know that Ted is happily reunited with the love of his life.
Sincerely Allen and Wendy Dieball.

Ted was one of my best buddies growing up as a child in MH. His brother helped me get the hang of playing bass clarinet in band. He was a neighbor and one of the sweetest folks I've known. Some of my fondest memories are watching "Perry Mason" at his home with friends after school and running wild in our neighborhood after dark--just having fun. We shared a fondness of Kahlil Gibran. I'm so thankful that I had the opportunity to see him in 2012 at our high school reunion. Rest in peace sweet soul. Condolences to the family.

I will forever miss your smile, your kind mannerism and the conversations we always had. From the first moment we met in the back hall of Walmart you until you left this world, you were one of the kindest souls. I wish we could’ve talked longer a few weeks ago but know that to me and mine, you made a lasting impact. We will miss you, friend.

Lynell and I are so sad to hear that Ted has passed, Ted and I shadowed each other in our careers with Wal~Mart. Ted was promoted out of Mtn Home just before I started at the local store and he was so well thought of as the associates mentioned him often. After working with him in Houston Texas it was obvious why. Ted was a true gentleman and friend and our prayers are with his family!
