Kay Goodwin Coleman

of Little Rock, AR

August 3, 1943 - July 16, 2020

Kay Goodwin Coleman, of Little Rock, was called home to be with her Lord on July 16, 2020. Born in Olena, AR on August 3, 1943, she lived in numerous Arkansas towns growing up. She graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1965 where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and the Mortarboard Society. Once her children were somewhat grown, she went back to college and received a master's degree in School Counseling at the University of Central Arkansas.

Kay was a devoted wife and mother. She touched many lives during her educational career as an English teacher and counselor. An active member of Pulaski Heights Baptist Church, she loved playing piano, participating in choir, and teaching classes. She was an excellent hostess - she and her husband graciously opened their home on many occasions for dinner parties or drop-ins. She welcomed the opportunity to create original centerpieces and cook a wonderful meal for others. An avid collector, she loved to frequent estate sales to look for antiques. Her friends often went ''˜shopping' in her garage. After running out of room in the house for her many collectibles, she opened and maintained an antique booth at Fabulous Finds. Generous to a fault, she was known for pulling out gifts in August that were meant for Christmas from her well-stocked gift closet(s), full of bargains and surprises.

Kay was preceded in death by her father, Harry O. Goodwin, her mother Mary Mae Goodwin, and her brother, Jim Goodwin. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Darrel Coleman of Little Rock, her sister, Jane Davis of Ft. Smith, her daughter Kathy McLendon of Waco, TX, and her son, Greg Coleman and his wife Danielle of Frisco, TX, and her 8 grandchildren whom she adored: Cole, Kaytlin, and Pierce McLendon; Emma, Jack and Lizzie Coleman and Palmer and Beatrice Tochterman.

A private graveside service will be held at 11:00 on July 22, 2020 at Morrison Cemetery in Crawford County. A memorial service will be held at Pulaski Heights Baptist Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pulaski Heights Baptist Church, 2200 Kavanaugh Boulevard, Little Rock, AR 72205.

Oh how I loved my Aunt Kay. I have a rich storehouse of treasured memories of Aunt Kay. She made a mark on my life and I will always love her. She was the hostess of hostesses! We have lots of family Christmas traditions that found their start at her house. She liked antiquing and shopping, recipes and cooking. She had a thing for collections and decorating. She could pen a poem or clever story and loved family history and connections. Aunt Kay had a special closet where she tucked away good buys and surprises! She was generous to a fault and would often pull out gifts in August that were really meant for Christmas! Visiting Aunt Kay always made you feel loved and special. When I file through my recipe box, there is Aunt Kay. When I look at the odd collection of stitch work on my half bath wall, there is Aunt Kay. When I set the dining table and add a centerpiece, I think of Aunt Kay. I have beautiful daisies that bloom in June, they were from Aunt Kay's yard.

Uncle Darrel, Kathy, and Greg I love you and am hurting for you and with you.

I remember Kay at Marshall School! In grade 8 she was voted most beautiful! In grade 9 she was voted most beautiful and was selected Jr High Halloween Queen! She was very active in school activities and the community! Her mother was a substitute teacher I the school system! I graduated In 1958, when Kay finished grade 9 so I lost touch with the family! She was a beautiful soul ! So sorry for your loss!❤️

Dear Darrell and Family
We are saddened to hear of the loss of your sweet wife Kay. She was a dear cousin and we had many fun times together at grandmother and granddad Goodwin's house, mainly during the holidays. I remember visiting Kay and family when they lived in Marshall , AR. We would sings songs together and she would play the piano too . One song stands out in my mind was the ''On Mockingbird Bird Hill "song, Her parents would have her stand up and perform it solo first and then we would sing it together. She had the voice of an angel and now she is singing with the angels in heaven. our thoughts and prayers are with you . Linda & Max Cooper
