Thresa Gill

of West Memphis, AR

August 5, 1934 - July 10, 2020

Thresa Ann Bennett Gill, of West Memphis, Arkansas passed peacefully into Heaven at the age of 85 on July 10, 2020. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert Earl Gill of the home; daughter, Valorie Gill Wilson (husband Rick) of Munford, Tennessee; son, Robert Earl Gill II (wife Marie) of Bartlett, Tennessee; grandson, Robert Earl Gill III, of West Memphis; granddaughters Sonja Maria Wilson of Brentwood, Tennessee and Stella Marie Gill of Bartlett; sister Evalene Bennett Tarlton of Jonesboro, Arkansas; a host of beloved cousins, nieces and nephews and an honorary family member, Mats Liljestam of Hollviken, Sweden. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bassel Bennett and Elva Rogers Bennett of Tyronza, Arkansas.

Thresa was born on August 5, 1934 in Marked Tree, Arkansas. She always said that her most important career was that of being a wife, mother and grandmother. After her children were grown, she worked as an administrator for Poinsett County Housing Authority in Marked Tree. She felt blessed to be working there alongside her sister. She also had her own business as a drafter and designed many of the homes, buildings and churches in Northeast Arkansas including the original development of Cherokee Village, Arkansas. She enjoyed traveling and reading. She had a curiosity about the world and very much enjoyed learning and reading about a variety of interests. Thresa was an accomplished artist. She has several oil paintings and designed many personalized pen and ink drawings for many people in the area, as well as for celebrities Johnny Carson, Lou Holtz and others around the world. Thresa was a wonderful soprano. She often sang solos for weddings, churches and special occasions and always sang in her church choirs. Some of her fondest memories include the time that she spent as a member of the Marked Tree Girls' Ensemble, under direction of 'Pop' Hodges. This group traveled extensively and was featured on the Ted Mack Show and in many international conventions, as well as local venues. She often spoke fondly of these wonderful experiences. She enjoyed her Sunday School, Church, a weekly friend group called Lunch Bunch and her United Methodist Women's group. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was making us happy even up to her final days. Most of all, she loved her Jesus, her Lord and her family with an unbelievable fierceness and strength that will forever live in all of our hearts. We are confident that she is making Heaven even more glorious.
In lieu of flowers, she wanted any that choose to do so, to donate to her church in her memory.

**In consideration of Covid-19, the visitation and services will observe social distancing and respectfully ask that all visitors wear a face mask.

Ron and I are so sad to hear about Thresa. We remember having lunch with her and Evalene a couple years ago when they took a road trip to Franklin. Your family has always been dear family friends with ours. Much love coming your way.

In my experience, family is everything. They weather the storms together, celebrate achievements and milestones, and no matter what occurs, they are always there when you need them. My family is everything to me-my comfort, my support, my strength, my rock, my cheerleaders, and most of all my inspiration.

Thresa Gill, my Nonnie, was a brave, determined--sometimes stubborn--witty, faith-filled, joyful woman. I have many fond memories of her which are filled with admiration for the Godly and loving woman that she was. Her strength was something that I have always admired. I hope that one day I can take what I have learned from her so that I can be just as loving and strong for my own family. I will miss her with all my heart. Love you Nonnie.
