of Mabelvale, AR
November 19, 1953 - July 4, 2020
Sheila "Avis" Ort (66) was born November 19, 1953 to J.D. Roberts and Erma Elaine (Roberts) Koon in Little Rock, Arkansas. She went Home to be with her Lord and Saviour on July 4, 2020.
Avis grew up and lived in the Mabelvale area almost all of her life. She was a 1971 graduate of McClellan High School. Avis worked for AMF Bicycle Company, St. Vincent Infirmary, and was a retired letter carrier of the United States Postal Service.
Though she had many hobbies throughout her lifetime, quilting was her favorite. She enjoyed camping and boating at the lake with her family and friends. She also enjoyed passing the time on motorcycles with her husband. Some of her most cherished times were the memories made at family reunions. Most recently, she also had begun taking banjo lessons. Animals were also an important part of her life. Throughout her life, she had horses, dogs, and birds. Some would argue however, that Avis' most favorite pastime was arguing with and pestering Martin Ort, her husband of 45 years.
Avis was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband and daughter, August Baker, and 3 grandchildren - Cody Baker, Brianna Baker, and Emilee Ingram. She leaves behind her 3 brothers - Wesley (Sharon) Roberts, Bruce (Jennifer) Roberts, and Mark (Kim) Roberts and a host of other family members including aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Also left behind are many friends, including her best friend of over 60 years, Ann Autry.
Bro. Allen Copeland will officiate the graveside service at Upchurch Cemetery in Mabelvale, Arkansas at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2020. A graveside visitation will proceed the service at 10:00 a.m.
Our condolences and prayers are with Avis' husband, Marty, and extended family and friends. Avis and Ann Harris Autry were the first two friends I made when I moved to Mabelvale in 1970. We spent a lot of time together then. Sweet memories. Rest in peace.
