I graduated from Greenbrier High School in 1953 and now I am approaching my 85th birthday. I have remembered with fondness Mrs. Bearden so many times. The fondest memory is the time after I gave an oral book report she gave me an A and complimented me to the class.. For an insecure little 17 year old, I will always remember the boost that was for my self confidence. She was also our sponsor on our Class Trip to New Orleans. One teacher I never forgot and respected her throughout my long life.

John,
I student taught in 1980 at Crestwood where your mom was principal. I just loved getting to know her. When the roads were icy, we'd meet at what is now Kroger on Oak Street and I'd ride with her. She talked about you so much and was so proud of you. I treasure those memories. May a million memories sustain and comfort you through your grief.

Mrs. Bearden was my first principal as a teacher. She was so supportive as I “learned the ropes”. She loved her school, faculty and the kids. Her Love for God and family (John!) were evident every day. I am thankful to know her as friend. Praying for John and family.

Velda was my Great Aunt and she was a fabulous person with a heart of gold. With all her accomplishments in life she was proudest of John, Pam and Hailey.

Thinking of Veda always makes me smile.

With Love,
Kim

I’ve missed Mrs. Bearden since she has been unable to attend Friendship lately. I was sad to learn of her passing but know she is enjoying her heavenly home after a long life lived well on earth.

It was a pleasure getting to know Ms. Velda and caring for her at Ridgemere Senior Living. She was loved and admired by many residents and staff. She will be dearly missed. I personally will miss her stories she often shared with me about her life and her family. Ms. Velda was a remarkable woman, who lived a life full of love and happiness.

To her wonderful family, you are all in my thoughts and prayers. She always spoke so highly of each of you, you all made her so proud.
