Opal "Jean" Gelene Whitfield

of Benton, AR

March 10, 1930 - March 19, 2020

Opal Gelene (Jean) Whitfield of Mountain View went to be with her Lord on March 19, 2020 while at Heartland Rehabilitation and Care Center in Benton, Arkansas.
She was born March 10, 1930 to Dexter and Opal Thomas of Gayler. She gave her heart to Jesus at an early age and was an active member of Foothills Baptist Church of Mountain View.
She married James Whitfied on July 19, 1947 and enjoyed 63 wonderful years before he was called home on February 27, 2011.

Gelene was preceded in death by her husband, James Whitfield; a daughter, Carol Harris and a brother, Virgil ''Jack'' Thomas.

She is survived by her son Richard and his wife Rebecca of Benton, her son in-law Jimmy Harris of Conway along with her grandchildren, Tamara Clement and her husband Jeff of Fort Worth, TX; Doug Gentry and his wife Tiffany of Mabelvale and Harrison Whitfield of Benton; and her great-grandchildren Daniel Clement, Miranda Clement, Liam Gentry and Olly Gentry. She leaves behind one brother, Don Thomas and wife Jeal; sisters in-law Faye Whitfield Deloris Whitfield, and Jane Thomas and one brother in-law Dale Whitfield; along with a host of nieces and nephews and countless friends.

The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the staff at the Mountain View Residential Home and the Heartland Rehabilitation and Care Center of Benton.


A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Opal Gelene (Jean) Whitfield at a later date.

I am so sorry about Jean's passing. She was a wonderful Christian lady and will be missed by all. Her and my Daddy grew up together there at Fifty Six. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
