Kathryn Kitsinger passed away with peace and grace on February 22, 2020 after a brief illness. She was an active 95 years old and the matriarch of her family. Kathryn worked tireless in her community and always made time for her family, neighbors, friends and community.

She was never prouder than when she was giving back to her community. Kathryn volunteered to create her community association and at 90, completed over 1,000 volunteer hours at The Memphis VA Hospital. Her strong faith and love of the Lord was an inspiration to everyone that knew her and guided her daily life and every contribution she made.

Kathryn was predeceased by her husband of 50 years Leo Kitsinger and her son Jimmy Kitsinger, her sisters Almeda Harr, Sammie Berry, Glenda Uthoff, her brothers Sonny Boy Harr and Bob Harr. She is survived by her loving children Jackie Whorton, Dennis Kitsinger, Gary Kitsinger and Andy Kitsinger and her dear sister Marilyn McLaughlin. Kathryn was very proud of her 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

To a loving lady that will be surely missed , a great neighbor, a great person, a great friend. That reminded me of my granny Sybil Lloyd, always trying to help others. Ride High On That Mountain for your work on Earth is done. Rest easy and rejoice with your heavenly father

Aunt Kathryn was one of the sweetest and most joy-filled people I have had the pleasure of knowing, and she made those around her feel special and loved! She was always up for playing a game or telling a story, and made every gathering a party. I’ll miss her! ❤️

Aunt Katherine told me, when I met her when she was 90, “I like volunteering at the hospital—and it makes me feel so young and healthy!” She also told me how she looks forward to her morning routine, getting up to read the Bible and sing hymns early every morning, and watching the sun rise. I hope I can be like Aunt Katherine. She had an amazingly positive spirit and was good at finding things to enjoy in life.

Aunt Kathryn was one of my heroes, and a woman ahead of her time. I love that she knew so much about plumbing, electrical wiring, and carpentry, and that she wasn't afraid to do these kinds of things on her own. She was such a sweet and generous spirit too, and I always loved visiting her home. I felt so loved and welcome and cared for by her. She had a way with plants and with people; I guess it was a her nurturing spirit. I loved that she woke up in the wee hours of the morning to drink coffee and to spend time communing with God. I'm 58 years old now, but I still say I want to be just like my Aunt Kathryn when I grow up!
