Betty R. LaMastus

of West Memphis, AR

August 12, 1929 - February 12, 2020

Betty Ruth Reynolds LaMastus, 90, passed away on February 12, 2020, after a brief illness. Betty was born August 12, 1929 in Gunnison, MS. She was the youngest of seven children born to George and Arvie Inmon Reynolds.

She was already known for her fiery red hair and personality by the time she met James LaMastus in August 1942, when he was driving her school bus in Drew, MS. He went on to join the Army and fought in WWII. When she was notified that he was either missing or a POW, Betty showed her persistence and faith in God by believing that one day he would return. He did in May 1945, and they were married shortly after that. They spent 73 years together before he passed in October 2018.

Betty worked 38 years at Baxter Laboratories in Cleveland, MS. She had many interests and hobbies. She was an excellent cook and baker. The recipients of this talent affectionately called her "The Cake Lady". She was of the Baptist faith and always loved her Sunday School and church family. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She also liked to sew, garden, and read until macular degeneration took her eyesight. She bravely lived 18 years with this disease but never let it keep her from enjoying life. She was a ray of sunshine. Her goal each day was to do good and make others happy. She had a beautiful smile and a generous heart and will be missed by so many.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Sandra LaMastus Logan, a grandson, Troy Galtelli (Jessica), and a great grandaugher, Sydney, all of West Memphis. She is also survived by her two nephews, Glenn Britt (Peggy) and Billy Britt (Roselyn); and 2 nieces, Judi McGee (Bill) and Carol Deweese (Larry).

Sandra, I'm so sorry to hear about your mother Sweetie. You know that she and my mama are having a good time right now catching up. Growing up together, they loved each other. Even though they didn't much time to spend together in their later years, they always, would ask about each other and show how much they cared.
I'm sending you my love, prayers, and lots of hugs.
Love you my Friend!

Sandy,
I count it a gift to have had the opportunity to know your mom. She was indeed a ray of sunshine and a joy to be around. I know you will miss her, but you have so many wonderful memories for reflection.
May God grant you peace as you go through this difficult period.

Love,
Mary
