of Yellville, AR
March 15, 1916 - January 5, 2020
Demoia Hamlet, age 103, of Yellville, Arkansas passed away Sunday, January 5, 2020.
Demoia was born March 15, 1916 in Freck, Arkansas to the late Harve and Nina (Dean) Keeter. Demoia married Keith Hamlet on September 4, 1934. He preceded her in death October 8, 2001.
After completing school in the early 1930's Demoia taught school in one room schoolhouses at Cedar Creek, Number 10 and 7 in rural Yellville. After marriage and residing in the state of Washington, Demoia and her husband, Keith, returned to Yellville where they settled at a farm in Weast City (Highway 206) where she lived most of her adult life.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Yellville. She was employed at Mar-Bax, Beta's Dress Shop and was a homemaker and helped her husband with farming. She always had a large garden and canned the produce and baked bread. She was an excellent cook and we all enjoyed the many meals and family fun at their home. Demoia was a good seamstress and pieced and quilted quilts.
She and Keith attended the Flippin Senior Center where they enjoyed the meals and Keith would play pool while Demoia and some of her friends quilted some beautiful quilts.
Mrs. Hamlet is survived by her children Avanell Thomas and Larry Hamlet; grandchildren: Brian Thomas, Kristin Lucash, Scott Hamlet, Leslie ''Les'' Hamlet and Richard ''Rich'' Hamlet and his wife, Rachael; great grandchildren: Ashlee Thomas, Drue Thomas and his wife, Beth; and Lance Hildebrand; one great great-grandson Harrison Thomas; her sister Willadean Beakley; many relatives, friends, and neighbors who visited Demoia at the nursing home often; and special friends Billy and Melinda Riggs, and Jack Tate.
She was also preceded in death by a sister Douglas Hamlet; brothers-in-law: Willie Hamlet and Robert Beakley; nephew Dale Hamlet; and son-in-law Ronald Thomas.
Demoia spent the last seven years at Community Compassion Center in Yellville where she made many friends and was able to celebrate turning 100 year old in 2016. Our family would like to thank all the staff at the nursing home for caring for her during those years.
Visitation will be 10:00 - 11:00 am Friday, January 10, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Yellville, Arkansas.

Hello I just typed in Demoia and Yellville in our google search. My mother chose Demoia for my middle name and told me Demoia was a very good friend of hers when they were growing up.
It is such an unusual name. My mothers maiden name was Sarah Ruth Ott. She always went by Ruth.
She had a sister named Ruby and 2 brothers. Don't know if anyone remembers them.
She married Merle Cantrell and they moved to Calif. with 3 girls and I came along later in California.
My mother Ruth passedn in 2001.
Demoia was my neighbor and was a sweet lady, whenever I helped her she was always so appreciative of everything and told me so. I know she was ready to go home to be with the Lord and meet with Keith. Will always have good memories of my visits with her. She was a good teller of things in the past, always made me feel grateful for the things we have now. She will be missed but I know she is happy where she is now. Previous commitment that I could not attend the service. Praying for the family.
Ms.Demoia was a special lady. I am privileged to have met her these last few months. She will be missed. Lenora Bell,RN
