Clydia M. Stender, 83, of Searcy, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 30, 2019. She was born in Cabot, Arkansas to the late Joseph Clyde Stocks and Dorothy M. Joiner Stocks.
Clydia was a graduate of Stuttgart High School class of 1953 in Stuttgart, Arkansas and attended Ouachita Baptist University for two years. She married Paul Stender her high school sweetheart in 1955. After raising her three children she went to work at the Head Start Center in Corning, Arkansas where she was the lead teacher. Paul and Clydia moved to Rockford, Illinois, where she worked at Tom Thumb preschool for 8 years and then with the Harvard school district before retiring and moving back to Searcy. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Searcy. She loved teaching children, reading, gardening, and crafts.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Paul G. Stender; her parents and an infant sister, Ida Norma Stocks.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter: Sheila Sartin and her husband Marty of Palmyra, Missouri; a son Britt Stender and his wife Sheila of St. Charles, Missouri; and a daughter Tammy Freeman and husband Richard of Silverton, Oregon; grandchildren, M.J. Sartin and wife Blake, Tyler Stender, and Trevor Stender; two sisters, Shirley Stokes of Searcy and Early Faye Rice and her husband Bob of Jonesboro; two brothers, Joe C. Stocks and wife Judy of Dardanelle, and Steve A. Stocks and his wife Karla of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Roller Daniel Funeral Home in Searcy, Arkansas. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm and interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery following the service.
