Tommie Lucille Hoskins Mooney joined our Lord in Heaven on November 7, 2019 at the age of 87. She was born October 18, 1932 in Spokeplant, Madison County, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert & Addie (Brandenburg) Hoskins, husband, Leonard H. Mooney, great-grandson Pace Alan Bryant and 7 siblings. She is survived by ex-husband Artist Stepp of Conway and her children, James D. (Joyce) Stepp of Conway, David (Jeanne) Stepp of Little Rock and Debra (Michael) Conard of Cabot; grandchildren James W. (Christy) Stepp of Bigelow, Lindsey Stepp of Conway, Ashley (Joe) Bryant of Rogers and Weston Conard of Cabot; her pride and joy, great-granddaughter Bailey Bryant of Rogers and her loyal great Pyrenees Ruby.
Tommie grew up on Little Mulberry Creek working the fields with her father. After marriage to Art Stepp, they spent time in California and Kansas City, but settled on the Little Mulberry once again.
Tommie was a hard worker and spent her early career at the Child Life Shoe plant in Clarksville. She co-owned & operated Mooney Building Supply, Mooney's Farmers Market & Grocery, and for years traveled weekly to the County Line Auction to sell produce. She retired from Hanes Brands Hosiery plant in 2016 after more than 25 years.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the compassionate care provided by Dr. Robert Noonan of Clarksville and the staff of Greystone Nursing and Rehab in Cabot.
Visitation will be 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. Monday, November 11, 2019 at the Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at the Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Jeffery Burris officiating. Burial will follow in the Oark Cemetery with Weston Conard, Joseph Bryant, James W. Stepp, Will Cowell, Calvin Cowell, and David Melson serving as pallbearers.

We were shocked and heartbroken to to learn of Aunt Tommie's illness and passing by reading about it in the Clarksville Graphic, after visitation and services had already been held, with no opportunity to visit her or help out or let her know we cared. Tommie was a singular woman--strong, kind, hardworking, caring, genuine, loyal,independent, fun, ageless. Beautiful women have no age. I hope precious Ruby is in a loving, protected, forever home, as Tommie would have so wanted. Tommie's wonderful smile and big heart will live on in our hearts.

So sorry to hear of Tommie passing. She was an extraordinary woman for sure. My last visit with her was at visitation for Bud Baker. Enjoyed visiting with her. We were discussing patterson Springs. She will be missed.

The phone rang and Tommie’s friend, Abby Burnett, told me that Tommie had just died about an hour ago. Well, I knew that my life had just changed – it would be different from now on because Tommie had been my link to the past.
We grew up in the Spoke Plant area and over the years, I’ve enjoyed many visits on the phone with first, Art Stepp and then Tommie. There has always been more than enough to talk about and I knew from these chats on the phone that Tommie was proud of the very, very unusual, remote place where she grew up.
Tommie lived her life well. She came from a place where there were no politics at all – no community structure – just neighbors living alongside neighbors on little farms where everybody got along. Folks lived well from what they grew in the fields and gardens and what could be found in the woods. I never saw a professional person, never a sheriff and never a game warden the whole time growing up = just neighbors. I think as God would have her do, Tommie took this self-reliance, confidence and common sense with her and made a life for herself and her family. I will surely miss her and our visits on the phone, but I am so very grateful to have had her for a friend. Thank you, Tommie.
