It saddens me to find friends in old obits, late. My friend B Sharp, I miss you since I left KCAB in the late sixties. I began Announcing work in 1965 and met B. He moved to another station, as did I eventually. Bill was fun to work with and a talent with a radio voice to kill to have.
He was reading the news live on air one day and I went in and set his reading material on fire. He was not very happy (to say the least). He didn't find the interruption as funny as I. There was always things like that going on around the station. He was certainly one of the good ones. I lost touch with him after he left KCAB... sorry about that. Fond memories of a great guy.
Bob Mack aka Ralph McCormick, Russellville.
I became acquainted with "B" (his clever radio moniker was "B Sharpe") in Springfield through a mutual friend, the late Gerry Durnell. Both worked at the top AM radio station in town, KICK, while I worked at a lesser FM one while attending SW Missouri State.
B moved to Conway some time before I moved to Little Rock for law school. Needing a part-time job, I walked into Conway's KVEE unannounced one day while he was on the air and he said something to the effect of what are you doing here? I explained my situation, said that I needed a job and he responded, "Have a seat", and walked out of the studio. I sat down, looked at the log, spun some country records, did the news, weather and PSA's for awhile. He then walked back in and asked me how many hours I wanted. I worked for him for a year before getting a law related job.
B was a fine, fine man and employer whose friendship I enjoyed. He introduced me to country music, which I still listen to and perform to this day. One enduring memory of him was his effortless switching back and forth from his "on air" neutral accent BIG VOICE to his natural conversational Arkansas accent. RIP, my old friend.

My deepest sympathy to Bill's family. He was a great guy who had a unique and perfect voice for radio. He will be sorely missed by many folks. Rest in Peace my friend.
Bill was a fine man who I remember from many years ago when I bought radio advertising from him and also had lunch with him at the Optimist Club. Through the years I'd recognize his voice on radio or TV and recall good memories of Bill.
May God comfort you as you go through this "valley of the shadow of death".
