Ouida Smith Harrington, 98, former Marianna resident passed away Wednesday, August 7.
She was a resident of Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bryant, AR.
Mrs. Harrington is preceded in death by her husband, Clif Harrington, Jr., her parents Herschell and Maudeulla Smith and sister, Juarene Clevenger.
Mrs. Harrington was born in 1921 in Oak Forest, AR and attended T.A. Futrall High School in Marianna where she graduated in 1938. While attending high school, she played basketball and had a love for the sport ever since.
She married Clif Harrington, Jr. in 1940 and they settled in Marianna following World War II.
Mr. Harrington joined the family business, Harrington's Drug Company, one of the oldest family operated businesses in Arkansas. Ouida worked there as a clerk and bookkeeper until the store closed in 1990, after 93 years of service to Lee County.
While living in Marianna, Mrs. Harrington was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was active in Presbyterian Women and had taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
She was a past member of the Lee Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and a Girl Scout leader.
Mrs. Harrington was always involved in helping to raise money for the Marianna HIgh School Band and taking cheerleaders to football and basketball games.
She loved to cook, knit, and sew and working in her yard composed of fern, caladiums, and crepe myrtle.
Mrs. Harrington is survived by her son, Clif Harrington, III (Debbie) of Benton, a daughter Georgia Ward (David) of Missouri City, Texas and a nephew Alex Clevenger and great niece Heather Clevenger of Memphis.
She is also survived by two granddaughters, Laura Harrington Westbrook (Jess) and Amy Harrington Ford (Clay) pf Benton and six great grandchildren, Kase Westbrook, Kyle Westbrook, Kate Westbrook, Campbell Ford, Henry Ford, and Major Ford of Benton.
Mrs. Harrington was a descendent of Mary Ann Harlan for whom Marianna was named.
Funeral services for Ouida Harrington will be held Friday, August 9, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church in Marianna with Dr. Ted Mealor officiating.
The eulogy will be given by son-in-law David Ward and the poem ''The Rose Beyond the Wall'' was read by daughter-in-law Debbie Harrington.
Burial will be at Marianna Memorial Park with Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers are Alex Clevenger, Van cArpenter, Bill McClain, Vince DeSalvo, Doddridge Daggett, Doug Gibson, and Dennis Young. Honorary Pallbearers were Carl Norman and Hugh Jacks.
The family would like to thank the staff of Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Saline Hospice for their love and support during this time.
The family requests that memorials be made in Ouida's name to the church and charity of choice.

To the family thank you for letting me be a part of your loved one's care. She was a blessing to me and a very good friend. I love her and will always remember her.
