October 22, 1940 - July 25, 2019
Roy Gene Massey, 78, passed away peacefully in his sleep as the sun came up on July 25, 2019. Roy was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was born on October 22, 1940 in Marshall, Arkansas to Roy Alexander Massey and Elsie Glenna (Martin) Massey. He was their third child and firstborn son. Roy married his wife, Sharon (Freeman) Massey on June 8, 1960. They were still happily married after 59 years. They had three sons: Jeffrey Gene, Gregory Gene, and Eric Leroy. Roy was a farmer and apartment owner for most of his life, served in the National Guard, and worked for the Arkansas Forestry Commission for over 30 years with much of that time spent serving as the County Ranger for Searcy County. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ in both Marshall and Conway, Arkansas.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Elsie, and his son, Jeffrey. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his two sons, Greg (Pam) Massey and Eric (Ashley) Massey; his grandchildren, Christine (Ben) Massey Wallace, Raegan Massey, Haleigh Massey, Alex Massey, Alyssa (Jacob) Seiter, Tarah (Kiefer) Ramsey, and Isaac Barr; his great-grandchildren, Ethan and Audrey Seiter; his two sisters, Rose (Carl) Harrington and Faye (Jerry) Riggins; and multiple nieces and nephews.
Roy loved God, his family, his work, deer hunting, and dessert of all kinds. He was a successful businessman who built his family legacy from the ground up, making countless friends and colleagues along the way. Though he could be perceived as a stoic man of few words, he loved to surprise you with an unexpected joke followed by his big goofy grin that could cure any bad day. Roy was best known for his unfailing work ethic, his perseverance in the face of adversity, his sharp mind, his infectious sense of humor, and his endless compassion for others.
Funeral services for Roy will be 3:00 PM Saturday, July 27th, 2019 at Roller-Coffman Funeral Home in Marshall, Arkansas. Visitation will be 2:00 till 3:00 PM preceding the service. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Marshall, Arkansas.

One of the main reasons that the Arkansas Forestry Commission was a fine agency was because of employees like Roy Massey. He will be missed by all that knew him.
