James "Jim" Glenn McInturff

of Jonesboro, AR

November 16, 1943 - July 1, 2019

James Glenn (Jim) McInturff

The City of Jonesboro lost a beloved member of its community this week with the passing of Mr. James Glenn (Jim) McInturff. He ran with endurance the race God had set before him, and as he crossed the finish line this week, he entered into the Kingdom of Heaven. In lieu of receiving a 1st place trophy, which was commonplace for him, he received the Crown of Life.

Jim was born on November 16, 1943 in Little Rock, to Virgle and Louise (Vanderford) McInturff, who have proceeded him in death. Jim relocated from his temporary home here on Earth to his permanent Heavenly home on Monday, July 1, 2019.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 35 years, Deb (Carter) McInturff, and his 4-legged baby, Bella. He also leaves behind two brothers, Charles (Sheryl) McInturff of Rogers, Dan (Linda) McInturff of Sherwood; one sister, Jane Gann of Sherwood. Jim was loved by his large family of brother in laws and sister in laws; dozens of nieces and nephews; his friends and his St. Mark's Church family.

Jim was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for cycling and running. He believed that being healthy and active was the secret to a happy productive life. At 75 years old, he was a dedicated participant in marathons, 5K's and 10K's both locally and throughout the United States. Jim was a devoted advocate for Cycling Safety and also belonged to a group of long-distance cyclists and loved biking with them frequently. He will be missed greatly by all of his friends.

Through his love of education and learning, Jim obtained his Specialist Degree in English and Literature. He was an instructor at the East Arkansas Community College in Forrest City for many years before retiring and moving to Jonesboro. He then became an Adjunct Professor at Arkansas State University until 2017. Though Jim had an unmatched grasp of the English language, it was his capacity to understand and teach the works of William Shakespeare that truly set him apart as an educator.

Jim engaged in many community events, often volunteering his time to help others. He participated in the Forrest City Little Theatre for several years and never passed up an opportunity to give motivational speeches to various Civic Clubs and organizations. He especially enjoyed traveling and vacationing to new places with his wife. He loved life and he loved to laugh. His smile was contagious and he was never at a loss for a story to share with you.

Jim and his wife are members of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Jonesboro where he served as a Eucharist Minister, Lector, Licensed Minister, member of the Men's Club and loved to work with the church's youth.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Jim will be held, Tuesday July 9, 2019, at 6:30 pm at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, with Rev. Scott Trotter presiding.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Monday July 8, at the church.

In Jim's honor, I leave you with the words of William Shakespeare, Good night, good night, parting is such sweet sorrow, that I shall say good night till it be morrow.

Funeral arrangements under the direction of Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.

Jim and I competed in many races over a long period of time. We shared many top awards, mainly because there were so few in our 60+ age categories. He was a friend and I will miss him.

Mr. McInturff was an inspiration to me and hundreds of others as a high school teacher at Charleston MO. Not a day passes that I do not draw on an example or story that he taught us. He taught us to have an appreciation of the arts. Although I will never be considered a "Renaissance Man" like him, I am a much more cultured person because of him. The sharing of literature and the stories that he told us live on through my children as I shared those adventures and experiences with them. Until we meet again!

I remember Halloween’s in our neighborhood, Yankee town, and how much fun he had scaring us kids! Then as a young adult taking his classes at EACC, how he was able to relate and connect his love for English Composition to his students. I still remember his slide show about pics he took of signs that had grammar mistakes. Truly one of the best college instructors I ever had. Prayers for you all.

Jim will be truly missed. He radiated warmth and acceptance with his infectious smile. He was great at encouraging novice runners (me) and chatting and telling stories to distract me from measuring how far I had to go.
