John Marshall Martin Jr., age 66 of Marshall, Arkansas passed from this life on Saturday, June 1st, 2019 at Gassville Therapy and Living in Gassville, Arkansas. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on April 11th, 1953 to John Marshall Martin and Norma Jewel Pottebaum Martin.
John attended Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock most of his life until moving to Marshall where he attended Canaan Missionary Baptist Church. He graduated from Central High School in Little Rock and went on to the University of Arkansas in Little Rock where he earned a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. John was a man of many talents and held many jobs in his career including Amtrak Railroad, United Airlines, Soundcraft and Arkansas Children's Hospital. John had a natural born gift for music. He could play about any instrument he picked up. He enjoyed all genres of music. He was an avid baseball fan and held box seats for the Arkansas Travelers. He rarely missed one of their games. He also was a very talented photographer and was published in several train magazines. John enjoyed travelling and loved to tell about the places he had visited.
Survivors include his children, Sarah Housley and husband Brandon of Marshall and Matthew David Martin and wife Amber of Grand Prairie, Texas; and three grandchildren, Noah Martin, Audrey Martin and Benjamin Martin. A graveside memorial service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, June 8th, 2019 at Bear Creek Cemetery in the Bear Creek Community of Searcy County, Arkansas with Bro. Shirl Williams officiating.
Our thoughts are with John's family. John and I spent many weekends photographing trains from the late 1960s into the early 1980s - many fun memories. John was a serious researcher of Rock Island railroad history. His published railroad articles and photographs remain but his smile and enthusiasm will be missed by his many friends in the railroad community.
I am so sorry for your loss.
