John Heinen, age 88, of Omaha, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Hospice of the Hills, Hospice House in Harrison. He was born July 17, 1930, to Hendrick and Catherina (DeJalle) Heinen, in Schaesberg, the Netherlands.

John attended St. Jude Catholic Church in Waldron and St. Agnes Church in Mena since moving to Arkansas. He also attended St. Joseph Church in Conway from 2015 to 2018 and then Mary Mother of God Catholic Church in Harrison. He worked as a coal miner in Limburg in The Netherlands before immigrating to Chicago, Illinois. He worked for Hilton Hotels and Midland Hotels as paymaster and auditor. The family then moved to Y City, Arkansas in 1976 where he owned and operated Y City Mountain Inn and Campground for 29 years. He enjoyed playing chess, golf, square dancing, hiking the Ouachita Trail and riding ATVs. He was a dedicated hospice volunteer for 25 years for Mercy Hospital and the Arkansas Department of Health, along with unwavering dedication to group Bible study, weekly prayer group, and outreach to the needy.

John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pat (O'Donnell) Heinen, of the home; his beloved son, Chris (Joni) Heinen; his grandchildren, Tristan Heinen, Jaden Gehrs and Ryle Gehrs; Tristan's mother, Chanda Heinen; special nieces, Leann Bartlett of Waldron, Anny Rabeling, Rebecca Slegers and Patricia Palmen of The Netherlands and the O'Donnell family in Chicago. He was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Kirstie Heinen; and his siblings, Enny, Mia and Joep.


Visitation was held Wednesday, May 8, 2019, from 5-7 pm, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.

Funeral service was held Thursday, May 9, 2019, at 2:00 pm, at Mary Mother of God Catholic Church, with Father Jim Fanrak officiating.

Interment was in Mary Mother of God Church Cemetery.
