My brother Joe,

Born to this world as Jose Alberto Rodriguez, he was best known as “Joe” to those who knew and loved him the longest. Joe was always true to and loved his family, and always reached out to see how everyone was doing and to tell us he loved us.

The phrase “gentle and kind soul” is often used and more than not inappropriately, but not when it came to my brother. He was truly blessed with kindness and patience towards all he met. Joe always saw the good in people, he made it very easy for anyone to talk to him. For all the right reasons Joe has always been a friend and loved person everywhere life took him.

Life threw Joe many curves. He dealt with each obstacle and did his very best not to complain or be a burden to anyone. He cared more about everyone else’s health and problems and often minimized his.

Joe’s stage 4 Pancreatic cancer was diagnosed over ten years ago. He was given months to live many times, repeatedly his will to live for those he loved and loved him kept him going through these many arduous years. To his last breath Joe said he was OK with what he had gone through instead of anyone else he loved. Coming from Joe these were not empty words, these were his heartfelt feelings.

Joe is finally pain free, he would want us to feel good for him and to continue living our lives through his lives’ example. Joe has made many of us better people for having known him. We will miss him and weep for him, but know that there is no question that Joe is in heaven guaranteed by the way he treated and set lives’ example for our family and others while he was with us.

Joe will be joining our Dad and Abuelo (Grandfather), and I’m happy for him.

God’s speed my brother, take your well-deserved place in heaven with the Almighty.
