of Marvell, AR
September 17, 1929 - April 26, 2019
As children and adults, we never really knew the meaning of the words, ''Today is the first day of the rest of your life'' until the afternoon of April 26, 2019, when we lost our friend, our mentor, our daddy, Lloyd Melvin George. We sure learned a lot from him in the 89 years of his life. He was the one person that never steered us wrong but would point us in the right direction. Daddy never told us what to do, but instead was known for saying ''this is what a fella' ought to do.
Lloyd began his life's journey on September 17, 1929 in Holly Grove, Ar. He was one of three sons born to Oscar and Evie George. He attended school in Marvell, AR. graduating in 1948. It was at this that he began to carry on the George family tradition of farming. Later that same year, he married Tolice Whitson. They shared a life of 40 years together and raised four children.
Lloyd continued his love of farming until his ''1st retirement at the age of 65. It was during this time he began his second journey in life when he married Cora Lee Spurlock. Together they shared 27 years of Marriage. They enjoyed spending time with family and traveling. Lloyd was a member of County Line Baptist Church in Marvell.
Retirement could not keep Lloyd from doing what he loved the most. He spent 20 years on the farm until he finally ''retired'' again at the age of 85. Lloyd may have been small stature, but his strong work ethic and love for the land was large. He instilled that work ethic in all his children and grandchildren and passed down his knowledge, wisdom and experience in farming to his son Ronnie and grandson R. P. George.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Perry and Evie Francis George, one brother, Horace George and wife Cora Lee George and Tolice Wilson and two grandchildren, Shawn Parry George and Haley Meiers.
He is survived by four children, Connie Cavette, Ronnie George (Doyla) and Shelia Reeves (Tommy) all of Marvell, AR, and Penny Doster (Jimmy) of Waldron, Ar., one brother, Nathan George (Cookie) of Mt. Pleasant, AR, 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. And a host of extended family and friends.
The family wishes to express sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at Crestpark of Helena for their wonderful treatment and care during the past year.

Rest in peace Mr. George chopped a lot of your cotton. My Aunt Mildred Rhines took us to a many fields. Uncle Lloyd Rhines really thought gighly of all the George Brothers and they always treated everyone so very nice regardless of color or status.
