Leslie Wassell Burgess

of Greenbrier, AR

September 4, 1950 - April 27, 2019

Leslie Wassell Burgess was born on September 4, 1950 in Little Rock to Wassell L. and Jean Burgess. He went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 27, 2019.

As a young man Les was an outstanding basketball player and enjoyed playing guitar with his cousin Gene. A particularly wonderful memory is how his dad enjoyed hearing him play Greensleeves.
Les was an avid reader and late in his life he found pleasure and inspiration in writing poetry for each member of his family. As his mother's eye sight faded he was a special help to her, reading scripture and devotionals. This enriched both their lives.
He had a kind heart and never met a stranger.

He is survived by his mother, Jean Burgess, his sister Sue (Ron) Tilley, his brother Ross (Sharon) Burgess, nephew Doug (April) Tilley, great niece Hannah Tilley, and great nephew Tanner Tilley, all of Greenbrier, and several cousins who loved him as well.

Les was preceded in death by his father Wassell L. Burgess and his niece Rebecca Diane Tilley.

Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Springhill Baptist Church. Visitation will be one-hour prior at 10:00 AM at the Church with Burial following at Springhill Cemetery.

I was introduced to Les by our mutual friend Eddie Glover when we were freshmen at UCA and from that day forward Les and I were buddies. He was a loyal and true friend to me for many years as we shared so many experiences together during college and afterwards. Les always stood ready to help his friends in any way he could and did so for me many times. First class guy. A real gentleman. It has been my honor to call him friend.

I'm so sorry to hear of Leslie’s passing. Loosing a loved one is never easy. I recently lost both my parents. After my losses, reading Revelation 21:3,4 gave me real comfort. It says: “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” And Isaiah 25:8 promises: “He(God) will swallow up death forever.” God’s word offers us real hope for those who have died. I hope reading these verses also gives you a degree of comfort and hope during this difficult time. jw.org

Les was a dear class mate for 12 years. I can not count the many wonderful times shared in school, on basketball trips and hanging out with friends. Les was fun, kind and a gentleman always. God bless each of you at this time.
