Elfreda "Freda" Genell Yates, 95, of Jonesboro, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. She was born March 16, 1924 in Jonesboro to Jess and Vettrell Stephens.

She was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Yates was retired from Colson Manufacturing and enjoyed sewing.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, James B. Yates; and sister, Joan Hall.

Survivors include a son, James L. (Nora) Yates; grandchildren, Jill (David) Simmons and Justin Yates; great grandchildren Victoria, Haley, Anna, Cameron, Bowen and Barrett; brother-in-law, Bud Hall; and sister, Doris Stephens.

Funeral services will be Sunday, March 24, at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home at 2:30pm with Harold Russell officiating. Burial follows at Macedonia Cemetery.

Visitation precedes service at the funeral home from 1:00pm until time of service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be sent to Macedonia Cemetery Fund, in care of Buddy Couch, 2132 CR 760, Jonesboro, AR 72401.

Aunt Freda was a gem! A loving, smiling person always. She and Uncle Barney were a special couple. I am saddened to see her gone. Rest in peace dear lady ...

Jim, I am so sorry to hear of Freda’s death. I hadn’t heard of your dad or Joan’s death, either. Made me think of all the good times we had living by y’all in the 50s and early 60s and of Daisy. I think of y’all often. Thank goodness, it was published in the Democrat-Gazette! Long lost friends!
