Lillian Fletcher

of Clearfield, UT

March 23, 1933 - March 19, 2019

Lillian Louise Hoke Meeker Fletcher was born on March 23, 1933 in Lake City, Craighead County, Arkansas. Her parents are Henry Gilbert Hoke and Martha Francis Smith Hoke. She was the youngest living child of 12 (3 siblings died in infancy). She grew up in Lake City, Bay and the surrounding areas.
She married Marvin Samuel Meeker on September 28, 1951. They had two children before they divorced. On August 31, 1977 she married Alver Jerome (Jerry) Fletcher, who died in 2011.
She was an avid sports person and was a basketball star in high school. She often laughed about how she played with the airmen in Arizona and they let her win until they found out how good she was, then they showed her no quarter. Her basketball playing continued until just a few years ago. She enjoyed water skiing and finished several marathon ski runs when she was a young woman. She hunted with her father and then her father in law. Once her children were in school, she became a cosmetologist and eventually owned her own shop. She was an officer in the state leadership of her trade. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After she married Jerry, she helped him in his businesses. By that time, they had moved west and lived in Utah, Nevada and Arizona. She had a great love of horses and was a natural horsewoman.
She is preceded in death by both her parents; her siblings, Clifford Gilbert Hoke, Ruby Jewell Hoke Gragg, Pearl Mae Hoke Culbreath, Julia Irene Hoke Wade, Edna Lucille Hoke Winford, Loyd Calvin Hoke and Charlie Henry Hoke; her step-son, Larry Stephen Fletcher; her grandsons, John Henry Meeker and Daniel Lynn Bishop; and her great-grandson, Samuel Christopher Naylor.
She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Francis Hoke Clay of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and her sister-in-law, Christine White Hoke of Paragould, Arkansas; her daughter, Denise Ann Meeker Willey of Clearfield, Utah and her son, Gary Marvin (Corrall) Meeker of Bono, Arkansas; her step-daughters, Vanessa Kay Fletcher Reece, Rebecca Ann Fletcher Moss (Jonathan), and Lisa Janine Fletcher of Jonesboro, Arkansas and Sherri Lynn Fletcher of Southaven, Mississippi; 12 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 1 great- great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.
On Thursday, March 21, 2019, she will be honored at a viewing from 4-6 and a funeral from 6-7 in the Clearfield 7th Ward building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 350 Vine St., Clearfield, Utah. She will also be honored in Arkansas at a viewing from 6-8 on March 24, 2019 at the Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, 1900 W. Washington Ave., Jonesboro. Her funeral will be at 10:00 am on March 25th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 301 E. Highland Drive, Jonesboro, Arkansas. She will be buried at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the funeral.
