Tery Baskin

of Little Rock, AR

October 24, 1953 - March 8, 2019

Tery Baskin, age 65, of Little Rock died March 8, 2019. He was survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary; daughter, Julie Lewis (Randy); son, Jeff Baskin and girlfriend, Marissa Hamel; parents, Ina and Jim (deceased) Baskin; sister, Jimmie (John) Coleman; nieces, Carrie Moore and Sydney Coleman; nephews, Jeremy Walsh, Rob Walsh, Adam Walsh and Austin Coleman.
Tery's father was a career Army soldier so he lived all over the South and spent 3 years growing up in France then graduated from high school in Lawton, OK. A 1975 graduate from AR Tech, Tery was inducted into the Tech Hall of Distinction in 2016. He received his doctorate from the UAMS College of Pharmacy.
Tery held leadership positions for the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) for many years beginning when he was a student. He was the longest serving Board member in the 167 year history of the organization, most recently serving as Treasurer. He spent many years traveling to Washington DC for meetings and to 42 consecutive annual conventions.
Tery was the owner of McCain and Aday's pharmacies before working for the Arkansas Pharmacists Association where he served as one of the youngest Presidents ever elected. He ran Pharmacy Associates, a pharmacy benefits management company before becoming an executive for NMHC on Long Island, NY for 7 years. He returned to Little Rock to start RxResults to help companies to control costs of supplying health care to their employees for the past 10 years.
He was an avid Razorback fan and outdoorsman, a wonderful family man and member of Fellowship Bible Church where he served on the missions commission and as an usher. He went on mission trips to Haiti and Honduras to provide medical care to impoverished people.
Tery loved and was loved by a host of cousins, college buddies, colleagues, church friends, his beloved pets including his Golden Retrievers Buck and Duke, and friends around the country. He had a knack for making friends wherever he went.
Donations in Tery's honor may be made online or by check to either World Gospel Outreach (a medical mission and orphanage in Honduras) or the American Pharmacists Association Foundation.

I have known Tery since he was in College. We became good friends and remained so for life. We served together in many positions in APhA and shared many fine dinners with Mary & Tery! Words do not come to me that can express my grief with his loss. He was one of the most kind, funny, caring, fun to talk to person that I have ever known! His love for basketball and the outdoors made him extra special to me. I will forever be thankful that Tery was a part of my life. My love and prayers are with Mary and all of the family.

Dear Mary, Jeff and Julie, we are so hear of your fathers passing and We wanted to share our condolences with you. It is never easy to have to say goodbye to a loved one. The pain of loss can be unbearable. Our Creator promises us that one day this pain will be just a memory. That beautiful promise can be found at Revelation 21:3,4. Our pain and suffering will be a thing of the past, and we can cry tears of joy as we welcome back the ones that we love so much. We hope you find comfort in those promises.

Mary, Julie and Jeff,
I pray that you will find comfort during this time of grief and sorrow. Tery is truly with his Lord and Savior, i'm sure telling stories to all those that have gone before us. I will miss him, but my professional life is so much richer knowing him, working for him, and working with him. He lit up a room with his integrity and character. I can't believe it was 20 years ago that he made me stand against the wall in the office so i could get my name penciled into the "family". I have an extended family because of him that I cherish dearly. May God Bless you and keep you until you see him again.

My deepest condolences to the family. I worked with Tery at NMHCRx back in 2001 to 2003. He was a man of integrity with a great sense of humor and a gift for story telling. He was one of the few people i have kept in touch with over the years and I was able to visit with Tery for breakfast about a year ago when he shared with me his battle with cancer. May he rest in peace with our Lord.

I am devastated with the loss of my good friend. We were roommates on Long Island for a year when serving as senior officers of NMHC. Tery was the best friend and human being I have known. From reaching me how to make fried bread to mentoring me in pharmacy his candor and humor was unrivaled. Tery, I knew you well enough to know your being greeted by the loving arms of your Savior. God bless your family. Your eternal friend, Jim
