Johnnie Ruth Barnes, 74, passed away February 5, 2019 in Covington, Tennessee.

She was born on March 9, 1944 to Walter and Ruth Hampton in Parkin, Arkansas. She was a lifelong resident of Forrest City before retiring in 2014 and moving to Parkin, Arkansas. She then moved to Covington, Tennessee as her health began to fail in 2016. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Parkin. Her life was centered around her avid love for horses. She was an adult leader for the St. Francis 4-H Horse Program. She along with both her daughters were involved in breeding, raising and training horses. However, showing and competing in many states was the highlight to Johnnie and her daughters.

She is survived by one daughter, Amanda Cothran (Darrell), five grandchildren, Kenneth Scott McNair, Julie Rae Fuller, Courtney M. Watkins (Clint), Justin L. Gurley (Amanda), Matthew Cothran; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Alice Laws of Forrest City, Arkansas; one brother, John Walter Hampton of Heber Springs, Arkansas.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Gwendolyn L. Sams; and three husbands, R.M. Covington, Jr., Mitchell Barnes and Rickard Baldwin.

So very sorry to hear about Johnnie Ruth's death. I grew up in Parkin. My parents Floyd and Maggie Utley along with my siblings were friends with the family. My thoughts and prayers that you find comfort in your time of need. Death may have taken her but it can't steal the wonderful memories of her.

I'm sorry for the families loss.
Johnnie Ruth was a special person.
I'm truly thankful for the care and compassion she showed to Daddy during his illness and battle with cancer.

So sorry to learn of Johnnie’s passing. She was a special person and a great neighbor. I’ll always remember the help she provided when caring for my mom. She loved her family and shared many wonderful stories about them. God Bless the family and comfort them during this time.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Johnnie Ruth. We grew up in Parkin and my Mom and Dad Maggie and Floyd Utley were friends of the Hampton family. It is so sad to hear about childhood friends passing. I pray God will comfort you in your time of grief.
