Barbara married Thomas A. Byrd on February 25, 1955 in Little Rock, Arkansas. They were married for 57 years. She was a homemaker, mom, and grandmother. Those things made her life rich and happy. Later in life she married Joe P. Simmons, a kind friend who looked after her and made sure she took care of herself.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas A. Byrd (Kari) of Enola, Arkansas and Stephen W. Byrd (Dena) of Leslie, Arkansas. Four grandchildren; Marie K. Overturff (Cody) of Shirley, Arkansas, Bradley D. Byrd of Harrison, Arkansas, Dr. Maralyn Martindale Beadles (Jake) of Aurora, Oregon, and David J. Byrd of Little Rock, Arkansas. Five great-grandchildren; Ethan and Addie Grace Overturff, and Hayden, Brooke, and Kylie Byrd. Two Brothers; John Martz (Betty), of Bentonville, Arkansas and David Martz (Shirley) of Hickory Creek, Texas.

Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Byrd, Sr, parents Rex R. Martz and Dorothy E. Kenfield Whitner, one son, Robert Lynn Byrd, and granddaughter, Samantha A. Byrd.

Barbara was a very hard worker, she loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and was very proud of all of them. She was a kind, generous, and giving person who always put others before herself. She will be missed by many friends and family, but her legacy will continue to live on forever through all the lives she has touched.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Timbo, Arkansas where a memorial service will be held in her honor at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 15, 2018. Pastors David Martz and Danny Robbins will officiate.

Barbara, this is Barbara..... that's how our phone calls would always begin. I was so sad when I saw my dear friend had passed away. We shared so much over the last 30 years. I so wish I could be there Saturday to honor her but I will be out of town. Sending my love to the family. I know she is rejoicing in heaven..

I am so sorry to hear of Barbara’s passing, she was a very pleasant lady and I enjoyed being around her. She cleaned my house and also the Leslie Post office and she was always so positive and loved her family.

Barbara was the kindest and most loving Mother-in-law any woman could ever ask for. She treated me like her own daughter and loved my children from a previous marriage the same as all of her other grandchildren. She was a true child of God in everything she did and said. I will miss her terribly. Love you Mom.

We were saddened to hear about the loss of this sweet lady. We only had the opportunity to meet her a couple of times but each time she was the most welcoming woman I'd ever met. The community of Fox will miss her. Praying for the family

Love -

Barbara was one of the loveliest people I have ever had the privilege to know, beautiful inside and out and she had a smile that lit up her face. I loved her and will miss her as will many others who knew. We pray for peace for her family in this time of grief.
