Herbert Bruce Slaughter

of Little Rock, AR

June 7, 1958 - November 27, 2018

Herbert Bruce Slaughter, 60, of Little Rock passed away November 27, 2018. He was born June 7, 1958 in Little Rock to Herbert and Madlyn Slaughter.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents:; three siblings: Brenda Quick, Bertha Rumback and Murray Slaughter. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Judith Slaughter; two fur babies:-Gizmo and PJ and a host of loving family and friends.

Bruce was a 1976 graduate of Catholic High. He met his wife, his soulmate in the summer of 1978. After an extremely long courtship of 12 years, the couple tied the knot in 1990.

Bruce was an avid outdoors man. He loved to hunt, scuba dive, and his most favorite sport was fishing. He loved fishing with friends, especially with his closest friend Steve. He loved fishing also in the Gulf of Mexico where he vacationed every year.

Bruce's Aunt Iris and Uncle Casey Slaughter were the original owners of the Shack BBQ, prior to it being franchised. Bruce's parents branched out and opened their own restaurant in 1960. H.B. And Madlyn started H.B.'s BBQ on Lancaster Road, which at the time was nothing more than a dirt road. The business thrived. H.B. taught his family well. After his death in 1981, his wife and two sons took over running it. When Madlyn died she turned their legacy over to her two sons, Murray and Bruce. The business was owned solely by Bruce after the death of his brother Murray in 1996. Within two years, Judith became his new partner. They continued with the same recipes his parents made famous. Although many have tried to duplicate, there is nothing better than the real thing. His wife, Judith plans on continuing with the restaurant as long as possible. It is what Bruce would want.

Visitation will be at Roller Drummond Funeral Home, 10900 Interstate 30, Friday, November 30 from 5-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held 10 AM, Saturday, December 1 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, 6219 Baseline. Online guestbook; www.rollerfuneralhomes.com/drummomd.

So sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in the words spoken at Revelation 21:3,4 With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away".

Hi Judi - Bruce's funeral at St. Theresa's was good for the soul. I shared Bruce's method of teaching his nephew HB's sauce recipe with my brother, Pat Flowers. It was such a "Bruce story".

I went through 8th grade with Bruce - he was such a handsome, funny, sarcastic guy. Any visit to HB's included his greeting.

I lost my soulmate of 33 years not too long ago. If you need someone to talk to, I'm available.

My best to you - Cindy Flowers Orr 501 944-5935.

I was saddened to hear of Bruce's passing. Memories rushed into my mind of a 13 year old boy with a winning smile and mischievous nature. Sometimes Madlyn had Murray and I take Bruce with us to the movies and, of course, there were all those fun times skiing on Lake Hamilton. May God hold you in his embrace at this time of transition and remembrance.

My heart goes out to Judi and the family and their many friends. I graduated Catholic High in '76 with Bruce. We were not close buddies necessarily, but I always enjoyed listening to him grumble about "the rules and Father Tribou." The night of our graduation I well remember no one cried more than Bruce. He showed a piece of his huge heart that night to many of us who didn't know him well. Through the years since he blessed us with his smile and many, many great bbq sandwiches. He was a blessing to many and heaven is rejoicing with him there. Rest in peace, brother.

Judi, what a wonderful husband and man you were blessed with I know the love that you both shared for each other and what a blessing that is. Not many in this world get to experience loving and being married to your best friend. May God comfort you with sweet memories and a strength only that can come from Him. Love you.

Our deepest sympathy to Judi and her family. We met Bruce in Orange Beach, Alabama, while vacationing and the two 'Bruce's' bonded while fishing on the pier together. We were so pleased to be able to see Bruce and meet Judi this past September when they were once again in Orange Beach. Bruce was a strong man, and he expressed his determination to beat this evil devil he was battling with Judi by his side. They were in love, happy to be together in a beautiful place and enjoying time with friends. We hope those memories sustain Judi as time passes. RIP Bruce. You were loved.

Judy, you know how to get in touch with us and we will do anything you need us to. HB’s will forevermore be our favorite BBQ, but we will miss seeing him back there cooking.
