Jean Parnell Hayes long time resident of Osceola, Arkansas, and more recently of Evans, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on October 16, 2018. She was the wife of the late Chester Hayes. Jean was born on December 28, 1930 to T. W. and Alma Gilliam Parnell. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a church clerk for many years. Mrs. Hayes retired from the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department after 23 years as administrative assistant to four sheriffs.
Jean was active in her community and devoted much of her time to two volunteer service organizations. She was a State President of the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Arkansas and went on to receive 14 national appointments during her time with that organization. Mrs. Hayes also served as Le Chapeau (National President) of La Boutique Nationale Eight and Forty, a subsidiary of the American Legion Auxiliary and continued her work with that organization into her 80s.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents T. W.and Alma Gilliam Parnell, husband Chester E. Hayes, son Larry D. Hayes and four sisters. She is survived by her daughter Catherine Jones of Augusta, Georgia; grandson Gabriel (Diana) Medo and two great grandsons, twin boys Grayson and Logan Medo all of Evans, Georgia.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Mrs Hayes was very nice lady and I also remembered your dad. I lived and grew up in Osceola all my life . Prayers to you and the family .

Many memories of a Canasta Card game club that I was in with Jean, Patsy Johnson Hamm were two that I remember in Osceola in 60"s. Prayers for all the family.
