of Little Rock,

August 16, 1956 - May 14, 2018

Richard ''Rick'' Watkins, 61, of Little Rock, AR died Monday May 14, 2018. Rick was born August 16, 1956 in Little Rock to the late Richard ''Dick'' Watkins and Carolyn Taylor Watkins.

Rick graduated from Hall High School in Little Rock in 1974. He then attended Westminster College in Fulton, MO before transferring to his alma mater the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He graduated in 1978 with a marketing degree.

Rick cared for the greater Little Rock community through his work at Arkansas Children's Hospital, political campaigns, and most dear to his heart Boy Scouts of America. He worked as CEO and owner of The Watkins Company, started by his father Dick in 1971 where they were able to work side-by-side for many years. Rick was a strategic businessman and was known for his analytical mind. He was able to continue to work in the family business with his son Win until Rick's passing.

Rick loved to relax on his couch with a good book. He spent most of his time with family and friends but he would always enjoy traveling to some of his favorite spots including Lake Hamilton, Destin, and duck hunting at Lodge's Corner. He had a sharp sense of humor and could always be found cheering on the Razorbacks in Fayetteville, AR.

Rick is survived by his wife, Marcia McKinstry Watkins; his son, Win Watkins and wife, Alina; daughter, Kate Mayo and husband, Hunter; brother, Robb Watkins and wife, Susie; mother-in-law, Jeanne McKinstry; brother-in-law, Mark McKinstry; a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews and his dog, Duke.

Donations may be made to Boy Scouts of America Quapaw Area Council, 3220 Cantrell Road, Little Rock, AR 72202 or AA Central Office, 7509 Cantrell Road #106, Little Rock, AR 72207. So sorry to here of Ricks passing.
He was a very special person, and was always there for me in good, and bad times. Although we lost touch years back due to company transfers and such, Rick was always just a thought away. Every hunting season, every time I see a printed advertising insert, or a black limo - There was Rick.
My son Patrick has lasting memories of big ducks refuge, those were such special times.
Rest In Peace -
Marsha and family… You were in our prayers

So sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in the words spoken at Revelation 21:3,4 “With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them.
And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away".

Marcia, I feel I know you, having worked with Ann for many years. She would tell me funny stories about your adventures in the "Garden Club" ... she spoke fondly of Rick and of the children ... of course she adored you ...

I am very sorry for your loss.

Rick, It is my hope that you have now found that tranquil Peace that we all desire. During my time with you as your personal assistant at the Watkins Company, and later on as a personal horse trainer for the famed Blackjack, I recall fond memories of you wanting to learn to ride horses so well so you could ride horses along side your beautiful Kate. We shared many stories of disappointments and successes during our talks on the trail ride. I learned many things from you that has guided my life. I especially remember during hard times of the death of both my parents , my dog, and a favorite horse while in your employ, that I thought life was only miserable. You walked into my office one day and simply said "All things that don't kill you will only make you stronger. You will be stronger". I have thought of your words often as I have experiences into my life of older age. This I am sure of with our many personal visits....you loved your children, you loved your wife Marcia and your many close friends. For all of your family and friends, I offer you my prayers for your eternal happiness, and well deserved Peace.

Rick, as I sit on my porch listening to the thunderstorm I’m thinking of experiences shared with you during the past 35 years. Conversations, correspondence, projects, spreadsheets, itineraries...I find myself smiling and crying at the same time! You were so much more than an employer, you were a mentor and a friend. Thank you.
