George P. Montgomery, 74, of Cash, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2018 at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center. George was born September 12, 1943 at Cash to Howard and Elizabeth (Bessie) Gallagher Montgomery. He was a graduate of Cash High School, the class of 1962. George was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam era. He lived all of his life in the Cash area.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marilyn Bennett; and a brother, Johnny Montgomery.

Survivors include three sisters, Joan Rose of Cash, Barbara Ivy of Grubbs, and Delores Barnett of Thida; one brother, Gene Montgomery of Cash; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Services will be 2 pm Monday at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, 712 N. Van Buren, in Weiner with Jimmy Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Holloway Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-7 pm Sunday at the funeral home.

Stanley Rose, Darryl Rose, Anthony Ivy, John Ivy, James Barnett and Aaron Montgomery will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will include Don Barnett, Jackie Ivy, Bob Smith, Jason Mcleod, Keith Lloyd, Joe Neeley, Leamon Rhodes and Doug Greeno.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests lasting memorials be made in George's honor to the Holloway Cemetery Fund, PO Box 7, Grubbs, AR 72431.

I served with George aboard the USS Pluck MSO-464 while in the Navy together. George being from Cash & me from Jonesboro (Valley View) we spend time talking about things that we had done before going into the Navy. George got out of the Navy before I did and he stopped by and said hello to my Mom & Dad.
They were very pleased that he came by.
