Kenneth Dee Isbell

of Bryant, AR

August 2, 1939 - December 15, 2017

Kenneth Dee Isbell, 78, of Bryant died on December 15, 2017. He was born on August 2, 1939 to Nolan and Thelma Isbell. Kenneth was reared in the Snake Island community and lived there until he graduated from high school at the age of 16. He borrowed money to attended Arkansas State Teacher's College but later dropped out and moved to Little Rock with his only possessions in a brown paper sack. When Teletype began operations in Little Rock, Kenneth started work at an entry level position. While at Teletype, he completed a business degree at night at UALR and was promoted to Section Chief over maintenance. He retired from Teletype at age 50, but continued to operate a box cutting business, a tool and die business, as well as acquiring various real estate properties in Saline County. His last endeavors were in well drilling and pumps.

Kenneth was married in 1961 to Betty Curton and they would have been married 57 years in March. In his younger years, Kenneth loved to hunt wild game and loved to fish for catfish and buffalo. When his hunting days were over, his friends would bring him deer, duck, fish and wild pig to eat and stock his freezer. One of his prized pictures is of himself and his grandson, Ethan, with a large catfish that was caught on East Lake. Also, as of late, Kenneth enjoyed inviting family and friends to his shop to feast on his specialty - spiced boiled crawfish accompanied by Betty's corn on the cob and slaw.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Nola Margaret Isbell. He is survived by his wife and daughter, Tracy (Keith) Thompson of Bryant; grandchildren, Ethan and Erin Thompson. He is also survived by his siblings: Don (Riza) Isbell; Judy (James) LaFevers; Kaye (Gary) Getts; and Sherry Cauley.

The family will gather at the Roller-Drummond Funeral Home (10900 I-30, Little Rock) on Monday, December 18th from 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be held there on Tuesday, December 19th at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow at Hamilton Cemetery (north of Humnoke) at 2:30 pm. Officiant: Mitch Delaney. Pallbearers: Harley A. Gill, Shane Isbell, Colton Isbell, Nathan Isbell, Mark Isbell, Jeremy Jones.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hamilton Cemetery fund in care of Dale Crane, 111 Crane Lane, Carlisle, AR 72024.

I met Ken in Feb. 1997, I seen a sign on Diamond Hill Dr advertising land for sale, I called him immediately wanting the land. He told me he was about to eat lunch and to come over at 1:00pm, so we did. He and his wife invited us in, I told him I wanted the lot, he okay, it is your and I'll keep the paperwork together. I was stunned and asked him aren't you going to check my reference and stuff, he said nope, it's land and you can't take it with you. I'll always remember that commit from Ken. And always seeing him with a glass of ice tea in his hand.

Ken was a great man, my deepest condolences to his family and friends.
