of Little Rock, AR
August 23, 1957 - August 30, 2007
Tommy Pearce, of Little Rock, our much loved husband, son, brother, uncle and friend, was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday morning, August 30, 2007, after complications from a stroke which could not be overcome.
Tommy was born to Ray and Bettie Pearce in Little Rock, Arkansas, on August 23, 1957. He was a graduate of Little Rock Central High School and attended the University of Arkansas. A printer by trade, Tommy worked side-by-side with his father, mother and a host of others at R & P Printing Company throughout his working life.
Tommy is survived by his wife, Kim Willis Pearce, his father and mother, Ray Pearce, Jr. and Bettie L. Pearce of Benton; his brother, Ray ''Skip'' Pearce III and wife, Debbie, of Hot Springs; and uncle, Jimmy Atkins, of Hot Springs; three aunts, Hazel Miller of Hot Springs, Edna Earl Bailey (his namesake) and Patsy Howell, both of Pine Bluff; father and mother-in-law, William A. Willis and Drew Willis of Little Rock; brother-in-law, William Scott Willis and wife, Vicky of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; sister-in-law Margaret Willis of Little Rock; nephews and nieces, Andrew Willis, Amy Beth Willis, Jackson Wills, Cate Willis and Graham Willis. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Lee Pearce.
To know Tommy was to know that he was passionate about two things football and thoroughbred horse racing. He was a gifted athlete and was always proud of the team role he played in Central High School's running streak of state championships in the 1970s. Because of this, we have chosen to publish a youthful picture of Tommy taken during those heady days of youth. As a member of the community, Tommy used his time and talents to support the Central High School Athletic Program and at the time of his death, was helping to host a tailgate fundraiser to be held during the upcoming festivities at Central. When football season was over, his anticipation would begin to build for the upcoming Oaklawn Park race meet. There is surely an imaginary groove in the concrete under the first floor telemonitors and a trail leading out to the apron of Oaklawn Park that will continue to have Tommy Pearce's presence written all over it. Ingrained in our memories will be Tommy walking out to watch the race begin with the Daily Racing Form safely tucked into the back pocket of his jeans, only to be jerked out and furiously slapped against his thigh as the stretch run began and he loudly encouraged his horse to 'get up there' across the finish line first. The sport has lost a true fan and we will acutely feel his absence in our lives as Arkansas' Fifth Season begins this next year and every year thereafter.
Tommy was by nature possessed of great strength of character. He was honest and truthful to a fault, loyal beyond measure and accomplished his duties and responsibilities with zest and grace as they were placed before him. Tommy was blessed with a large wonderful group of lifelong friends who he loved dearly and who loved him --although too numerous to name in this writing, you know who you are and Tommy's family wishes to thank you for being such a fine part of his life.
Until he began his last journey earlier this week, Tommy was anxiously awaiting this season's Razorback game against Troy State and would not want anyone to miss Saturday's game because of him. Because we know this to be an absolute truth, a graveside service for Tommy has been planned for Sunday, September 2, 2007 beginning at 2:30 p.m. in Forest Hills Memorial Park on Stagecoach Road with Dr. Ed Simpson officiating. Arrangements are by Roller-Chenal Funeral Home (501)224-8300.
Last, but most important, we all know that we, too, will have to follow our loved ones into eternity. Tommy had to make that walk earlier than most, but his family wants everyone to know that Tommy was indoctrinated into his knowledge of Jesus Christ through his association with Christian relatives and friends. It is our belief that Tommy entered the Kingdom of Heaven at the moment his perfect and wonderful spirit left his injured body. For this, we are grateful and know through the Lords' Word that we will see our precious Tommy again. To God be the glory.
Dear Sleepy and Betty and your precious family, I was so shocked and sooo very sorry to hear about Tommy. I know this is such a very hard time in your life and I know you will miss him terribly. It did my heart so good, though, to read that he believed in Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He is surely with his Lord . What a joy you can have knowing that. I love you both very much and will be praying for your God's peace and strength to be given to you both. You're both so precious and dear to me always, Cassie

Sincere sympathy to Tommy's family and friends.
Kim, Mr. & Mrs. Pearce and Family, I am so saddened of Tommy's passing and will miss imensely! That mischievious, laughing, giggle, that he had, would always bring a smile to your face. I enjoyed working with him on our reunions for the class of 1975 at L.R. Central High School. I know he loved those "Tigers", and was a go getter in every way, showing lots of spirit for them thru the years and has shown plenty of love for the "Hogs" and horses, as well. They lost a tremendous, faithful fan that loved the sport! Kim, I am so glad that he found the happiness he did with you, as his soulmate. His family meant a great deal to him! Again...he will be missed... Vickie Smith
Kim, You are in my thoughts and prayers. May the Lord comfort you and your family in your time of loss.

Dear Betty and Ray, My thoughts and prayers are with you both in your time of loss. Even though Tommy and I had grown apart over the years, my memories of him will remain forever. I still remember when he knocked that ball over the railroad tracks at J.D. like it was yesterday. All the football games we played in during the glory days of yesteryear. The times spent together at the racetrack and at your place in Hot Springs, I could go on and on. Tommy will be missed. All my love to everyone. Jeff Boggess
Tommy and I became friends this week, 41 years ago(1966). We were both starting 4th grade at Forest Park Elementary and I was the new kid. Tommy befriended me and he was the first one I invited to my 9th birthday party the following week. We lost track of each other over the years with him going to Central as I went to Catholic. Despite not seeing him over many, many years, I immediately recognized his picture this morning and am terribly saddenned by the loss of my old friend.
