Emma Lou Bridgman McAdams

of Batesville, AR

August 12, 1924 - August 31, 2019

Emma Lou Bridgman McAdams, age 95, died on Saturday, August 31, 2019, at Woodlawn Nursing Home.

She was born August 12, 1924, in Magness, Arkansas, and was the daughter of Edgar and Mable Bridgman. Emma Lou graduated first in her class from Magness High School in 1942 and then went on to graduate with her bachelor's degree from Arkansas College (now Lyon College) in 1946. Emma Lou married Elmer Ardel (E.A.) McAdams on August 1, 1946, after being introduced by E.A.'s sister, Lola Bee McAdams Evens, and going on many dates to the "Owl Show." Emma Lou began her career at First National Bank while in college and retired in 1986. Emma Lou was totally devoted to her family as a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was happiest when she was spending time with her daughter Judy. She was a member of the Harrison Street Church of Christ in Batesville, where she spent many years "politicking" in the foyer and visiting the sick and shut ins with her famous cookies and chocolate pie. Emma Lou will be remembered for her hospitality and wonderful home-cooked meals, including many served to her grandchildren and their friends on Fridays during their lunch time at Batesville High School. In her adulthood, she enjoyed walking with her husband and caring for miniature Sheltie collie dogs. In her later years, she devoted her life to the care of her husband in their home. She spent the last nine years of her life as a proud resident of Eagle Mountain Assisted Living (EMAL), where she was known for her love of sitting in the entry way, greeting residents and guests and bragging on her family. She was adored and admired by everyone who knew her. Emma Lou's family would like to thank the staff and community members of EMAL for their exceptional care and love of their most precious family member.

Emma Lou is survived by her daughter, Judith Carol McAdams Haas of Batesville; her sister, Sue Bridgman McGaha of Searcy; her grandson, Edward Adam Haas of Batesville; her granddaughter, Dr. EmilyAnn Haas Brown of Indianapolis, Indiana; and her great grandson, Jacob Edward "Jeb" Brown, also of Indianapolis.

Other than her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ralph Smith Bridgman.

The family will receive friends from 10 am to 12 noon at the Roller Crouch Funeral Home, Batesville, Arkansas, on September 5, 2019.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, following the visitation at the Roller Crouch Funeral Home on Thursday, September 5 with Tom German officiating.

Pallbearers are the elders and deacons of the Harrison Street Church of Christ.

Burial will follow the service at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville (870) 793-4161.
