Virgil ''Dude'' Briley, 91, of Batesville passed away on January 27, 2019.
He was born on August 17, 1927 in Jackson, Tennessee to Robert E. Briley and Daisey (Rushing) Briley.
He was a quiet, humble man who liked to tell a good joke and play the harmonica. He was a custodial worker at Citizen's Bank, UACCB, churches in the area. He loved to do yard work, hunt and fish. He also enjoyed watching westerns on TV.
Survivors include son, Tim Briley (Mary Ann) of Batesville; four grandchildren, Jason Briley (Penny), Shannon Briley, Anthony Murrell (Whitney), and Dustin Vernon (Chelcey); eight great-grandchildren, Jacob Briley, Elijah Briley, Hunter Murrell, Grayson Murrell, Kaylynn Vernon, Hadley Vernon, Raylee Vernon, and Brady Thomas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby Briley; three brothers, Talmadge Briley, Richard Briley, and Junior Briley; four sisters, Louise Stewart, Jacqueline Taylor, Virgie Miller, and Joy Briley; and great-nephew, Nicholas Thomas.
Pallbearers will be Jason Briley, Jacob Briley, Shannon Briley, Anthony Murrell, Dustin Vernon, and Jay Thomas. The honorary pallbearer will be Heath Wooldridge.
Funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 and take place at Peaceful Harbor Pentecostal Church of God in Batesville with Wally Varner officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Cushman.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home.

Jason, we were so sad to learn of Mr. Virgil's death. He was a very sweet man and always had a friendly smile. We know you and your family will miss him greatly. Just know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.
Jason, I am so sorry to hear about Virgil. He was such a sweetheart. I enjoyed working with him at UACCB. I remember when he would bring "Miss" Ruby's brownies to the break room. The email would go out that they were there and we would swarm in like bees to get one! Rest in peace Virgil. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
