Eric ''Gene'' Smart, 39, of Batesville died Monday, February 13, 2012 at a local hospital.
He was born in Batesville on April 17, 1972 and was the son of Tommy Gene Smart and Sandra Marie (Burris) Smart. He enjoyed watching the Razorback's, the weather, and playing NCAA Football with his cousins, Johnny Burris and son, Cody Smart.. Gene also liked to play basketball, enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was a carpenter and employed by Inspired by Prayer Landscaping and Remodeling, and he was a member of the Believer's Community Church.
Survivors include his wife, Amanda (Scranton) Smart of Batesville; a son, Cody Smart of Sulphur Rock; two daughters: Lauren Smart of Cave City and Makyhia Smart of Batesville; his mother, Sandra Smart of Bethesda; two sisters: Lisa Fields of Sulphur Rock and Misty Burnett of Batesville; cousins: Johnny Burris, Jerry Smart, Bill Richardson, Autumn Burris, Cheyanne Burris, Ashley Burris; uncles: Mike Burris and Glen Smart; aunts: Crystal Burris and Marsha Richardson; mother-in-heart, Dianne Pallardy; a son-in-law, Dylan Scarbrough; brothers-in-law: John Scranton, Michael Pallardy, David Fields, and James Lanning; a niece, Skyla Fields; and a nephew, Blake Fields..
He was preceded in death by his father; a son, John Henry Scranton-Smart; and grandmothers: Opal Marie Burris and Opal Viola Smart.
Pallbearers will be John Scranton, Michael Pallardy, Jerry Smart, Jesse Garcia, James Lanning, and Thomas Campbell. Honorary pallbearers are Cody Smart, Mike Burris, and Johnny Burris.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Believer's Community Church at 3645 N. St. Louis Street, Batesville, AR 72501 with David Insell officiating.
Burial will be at Cave City Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
Visitation will be at the church from 12:00 2:00 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service.

Uncle Eric you are the best and I miss you I still wish you were here so you could have of watched the RAZORBACK game with us we won by 17 and we won the boot. I wish you was here to see you kids grow up and see all of us graduate. Your mom misses you and so does your sister and so does my dad so does johnny so does your kids. I love and miss you Uncle Eric.

My daughter and son are good friends of Cody, Eric's son. Cody comes to our house and stays the night often. Cody and my daughter are in the same grade and have had class together for several years. I think of Cody as my own child and love him dearly. My heart goes out to him and his family, as his father, Eric, was a very likeable man. I have always talked about what a nice person he and his wife, Amanda are. Good people. My family's hearts and prayer's are with the family of Eric.Our Lord has a very good person with him now. Eric is in good hands.God Bless to the Smart family.
