Lucille Gray Sutton, 80, of Batesville died Monday, November 23, 2009 at White River Medical Center.
She was born June 28, 1929 in Melrose, Arkansas and was the daughter of Onus Euell and Mae (York) Gray. She and her husband, Hershel owned the Community Grocery and Harmony House Music Store from 1974 to 1992. She always put her family first and enjoyed the family gatherings. Lucille enjoyed singing and playing music. She did everything with her children and was very supportive of them. Lucille was also a homemaker and a good cook and enjoyed making homemade pies and desserts, sloppy joes and date nut bread. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting and flower gardening. Lucille was a gentle, joyous, happy person who could be anyone's best friend. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Gary Allen Sutton and his wife, Pam, of Richmond, Virginia; daughters: Darlene Sutton Allen and her husband, Frankie, of Batesville; Carolene Sutton Tosh and her husband, Ray of Cave City; seven grandchildren: Tina Allen Simmons, Nikki Tosh Boutwell and her husband, David; Terrie Allen Stubbs and her husband, Mitch; Brent Tosh and his wife, Tracy; Billy Wayne Sutton and his wife, Carrie; Crystal Sutton Tosh and her husband, Randell; and Alicia Scruggs and her husband, Allen; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Euell Lester Gray and his wife, Reba of Illinois; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hershel Wayne Sutton; a son, Jerry Wayne Sutton; two great-grandchildren: Ashley Suzanne Tosh and Lauren Elizabeth Tosh; two brothers, Chester Onus Gray and John Onus Gray; and two sisters: Louise Gray Jenkins and Margaret Gray.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Simmons, Quincy Simmons, Tyson Franks, Dave Hendricks, Brent Tosh and Zach Matthews. Honorary pallbearers are Phillip Morris, David Boutwell, Mitch Stubbs, Eddie Simmons, and Dr. James Harbin.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church officiated by Bro. Billy Sutton.
Burial will follow the services and York Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
