Dolores Bamford Amsden, 88, of Conway passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018. She was born on December 2, 1929 in Houlton, Maine to Ernest and Irene Bamford. She was raised by her grandmother, Myrtle Anne Bamford “Nana”. She is preceded in death by her parents, Nana, her husband, Frederick Amsden, Jr., daughter, Jackie Merkey, three brothers, and one sister.
Dolores lived in Colorado before moving to Conway. She attended New Life Church in Conway. She was a brilliant and remarkable woman who always loved to read and write poetry. She received a Bachelor’s degree in anthropology from the University of Colorado. She collected artifacts and planned on following a career as an archeologist. She even went on a dig in New Mexico, before her health changed her plans. She loved astronomy and spent many nights looking through her telescope at the stars. She enjoyed hiking and watching sports of all kinds, especially the Denver Broncos. She had a green thumb and could grow anything. She loved to dance and also taught it. Dolores volunteered her time with the Democratic National Committee when she lived in Colorado. She had a great love for animals and worked as an animal lab tech for many years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her three sons, Rick Amsden (Cindy), Tony Amsden, and Van Amsden (Diane); three daughters, Lola Ross (Jerry), Lana McKinniss, and Debbie Hews; brother, Terry Bamford; 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and her dog, Tango.
