Ron Smith, age 81, of Omaha, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, February 10, 2018. He was born October 10, 1936, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Arnold and Ruth (Murphy) Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ron was raised in LaGrange, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Navy as a reserve assigned to the U.S. Silversides, docked in Chicago, Illinois. He served 22 years on the Maywood, Illinois Police force, having retired as a Sergeant. After moving to Branson, then Omaha, he served an additional 20 plus years as a constable for Boone County, retiring as Chief of Police, of Omaha, Arkansas. He was an avid hunter and greatly enjoyed heading to deer camp with his buddies each year. He was a wonderful part of the community of Omaha, Arkansas.
Ron is survived by his son, Patrick Ronald Smith, of Westminster, Colorado; his daughter, Susan Danielle Smith, of Shorewood, Illinois; his granddaughter, Ellie N. Sidell and husband Zach; his grandson, Gabriel P. Smith; along with a host of friends who dearly loved and will always miss him.
Visitation was Thursday, February 22, 2018, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.
Graveside funeral service was Friday, February 23, 2018, at New Hope Cemetery, Omaha, Arkansas, with Bro. Arvin Adams officiating.
Pallbearers were members of the Arkansas Association of Chiefs of Police.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boone County Sheriff's Reserve, in honor of Ron Smith, Boone County Sheriff's Office, 5800 Law Drive, Harrison, Arkansas, 72601.
The board of directors of the Omaha Rural Fire Association and the Omaha Ladies Auxiliary extend their deepest sympathy. Many members of both the Rural Fire Association and the Ladies Auxiliary remember Ron and shared stories about him. May he rest in peace.

Saddened to learn of Ron's passing. Knew him for the past 25 plus years, and always had the utmost respect for him. He will be missed.
