Vernon Leonard Cantrell, 91, of Conway, formerly of Oil Trough, died Monday, September 16, 2013 in Conway.
Born in Charlotte, Arkansas on April 3, 1922, he was the son of Charles Leonard and Mary Frances (Greenfield) Cantrell. He worked at Countryside Mobile Homes in Newport for over 30 years and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed wood working, gardening, camping and being outdoors. A hard-working man, he liked to tell jokes and square dance. He was a volunteer for the Special Olympics and enjoyed being with family.
He is survived by two sons: Jerry Cantrell and his wife, Kay, of Fresno, CA and Danny Cantrell and his wife, Beth, of Conway, AR; a stepson, Michael Gunter and his wife, Norma, of Pine Bluff; stepdaughters: Janet Scudder and her husband, Darrell, of Morrilton, Judy Altom and her husband, Dale and Tammy Gunter all of Batesville; twelve grandchildren: Creighton Cantrell, Marla Nelson, Jera Stevens, Krista Cantrell, Dena Clark, Elissa Pitman, Scherri Richburg, Matthew Gunter, Kelly Jo McCarver, Curtis Fitzpatrick, Aranda House, and Ryan Altom; twenty great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Hackworth of Newark; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Nola Mae (Foster) Cantrell; his second wife, Lois (Gunter) Cantrell; brothers: Leamon Cantrell, Woodrow Cantrell, Bill Cantrell, Hansel Cantrell, and Ray Cantrell; and sisters: Pearl Baker, Bertha Gipson, and Edith Fields.
Pallbearers will be Terry Hackworth, Ronnie Hackworth, Mark Branscum, Darrell Scudder, Dale Altom, and Ryan Altom.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the White River Baptist Church in Oil Trough with Greg Antley, Clint Pitman, and David Pace officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Springs Cemetery in Rosie under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Vernon, It has been an honor having you in our family. You were the best step dad that I could ever have ask for. You filled our lives with love, laughter, and acceptance. You never made us feel like a step child. Thanks for being in our lives and loving us. You will never be forgotten.
