David Hand Cross, 68, of Lexa, Arkansas passed away Thursday, October 6, 2011 in Memphis, Tennessee. Mr. Cross was born October 21, 1942 at West Helena, Arkansas to the late Samuel David and Linnie Mae Hand Cross. He was a retired, well-known Farm Equipment mechanic for Planters Service and attended Fourth Street Baptist Church in West Helena.
Mr. Cross is survived by his wife, Judy Jones Cross of Lexa; two daughters, Karen (Dan) Colwell of Schererville, Indiana and Lisa (Justin) Watkins of Lowell, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Nathan and Mina Colwell of Schererville; one sister, Marie (Gene) Jones of West Helena; two nieces, Eugenia Newsom (Andy), LaDonna Jones (Dennis), and a host of other nieces and nephews. He also leaves a special family friend, Michael McGee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lelon Cross; and sisters, Mary Criddle Shoemaker, Ann Cullum, Linda Lou Cross and Janet Cross.
Funeral services for David Hand Cross will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 10, 2011 at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in West Helena. Reverend Rodger Hooker will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, October 9, 2011 at Roller-Citizens.
Pallbearers are Blake Johnston, Curtis Batchelor, Enoch Batchelor, Justin Watkins, Andy Newsom, and Dan Colwell.
Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Sandy Winston, Pat Burks, Gene Crowley, Mike Von Kanel, Tommy Light, Patrick Simmons, and Bob Beith.
Memorials may be made to Fourth Street Baptist Church, 1226 North Fourth Street, West Helena, AR. 72390 or The Humane Society of the Delta, P.O. Box 3218, West Helena, AR. 72390.
Services will be directed by Roller-Citizens Funeral Home, West Helena (870) 572-2571.

Judy, Karen and Lisa--Sorry I have been working out of town. I can hardly remember a day as a little girl when David wasn't around. Always happy and always laughing. I can remember thinking if I ever had sons I would hope they loved me like David loved his Mother and I got that. May God's grace comfort you and David's memories give you peace... With love

Words can't express how you and Mr. David touched our lives while at Fourth Street Baptist Church. I loved to see his smiling face, and no matter the pain he was in he always was smiling. I want to thank you and Mr. David for the love, encouragement, and just for simply being there for my family. Although Mr. David will be missed, I know he is with the Lord rejoicing and pain free. Miss Judy, I am deeply saddened to hear of David's passing. He will be missed by many as he was a good friend. I wish I had known about this in time to attend his funeral but I found out about it this morning by reading it in the Helena paper. I am truely sorry for your loss, but he is at peace now.
