Virgie E. Dougan Harris Garner, 95, of Benton passed away Saturday, May 2, 2020. She was born October 13, 1924 in Prattsville, Arkansas to the late Robert and Mary Dougan. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by each of her husbands, Charlie W. Harris and Donald Garner; son, Charles Rickey Harris; grandchildren, LeAnn Harris and Shannon Harris; brothers, Lewis Dougan and R.C. Dougan; and sister, Bethel Dawson.
Virgie was a member of Highland Heights Baptist Church for many years where she was a past president of the Highland Heights Joy Group. As a young woman, she worked for West Department Store and later served as Justice of the Peace for District 4 of Saline County. Virgie was also a member of Eastern Star, Benton Chapter 231. She served Eastern Star as a Worthy Grand Matron, an organist, and a Grand Representative to South Carolina. In her later years, Virgie spent many hours volunteering for the Saline Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include her son, Robert Harris of Alexander; three grandchildren, Heath Harris, Heather Harris, and Brian Harris; sister, Eueldean Calaway; daughter-in-law, Chrys Harris, and seven great-grandchildren, Cody Harris, Gracie Harris, Andrew Reeves, Easton Reeves, Savannah Harris, Stetson Harris, and Abby Martin.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Jacobs Cemetery in Sheridan, Arkansas with Pastors Nick Calaway and Todd Calaway officiating.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, social distancing practices shall be observed when in attendance.
I remember how kind and thoughtful you were when we met. You loved our mutual family history, and it was a real treat for me to meet you. May you rest in peace!
Budgie was a sweet Lady to me always.She will be missed .But Budgie I know you are enjoyed being with Jesus and all your loved ones.Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life.Love you!
