Terry Sanders
(April 13, 1953 - April 7, 2020)
Terry Keith Sanders was born in Mountain Home, Arkansas on April 13, 1953 to Bobby and Mary Elizabeth (Smith Nelson) Sanders. He is preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Mai Love; and half sister, Sandra Sue. He is survived by his sister, Sherry Sanders of Mountain Home, 3 children: Alice Strange of Maumelle, Sally (Eric) Gladden of Garfield, and Tyler Sanders of Hot Springs, and four grandchildren: Vance and Elle Strange and Abby and Ava Gladden. Terry also leaves behind many cousins, family members, and friends, all of whom he cherished.
Terry was an avid fisherman, hunter, river guide, gardener, unofficial historian, and all around outdoorsman. In his school years, he was an active participant in basketball and baseball, both of which he played with incredible talent and expertise, or so he never ceased to tell us. He was a junior member of the Yellville-Summit basketball team during one of their State Championship years, and was scouted by the MLB representatives for the Houston Colt 45's, who became the modern day Oakland Athletics.
As his father before him, Terry spent many years serving the citizens of Arkansas as a Law Enforcement Officer. He also worked at Barnes Canoe Rental, Marion County Road Department, Baxter Lab, Miller Hardware, Marion County Paving, Smith Brothers Construction, Holiday Boats, and the Arkansas Highway Department, where he retired. His later years were spent tending his garden and chickens, providing friends and family with an abundance of tomatoes and eggs, and taking his grandchildren fishing.
Terry was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, yet father-in-law to a Yankee. He could be seen regularly at Miller Hardware, Allen's Grocery, Buffalo Point Restaurant (Larry's), or up at Hampton Auto shooting the breeze, quick to tease the most unsuspecting target. He was playful, quick to rile, naturally protective, and always "gave it to you straight" without holding back - you never had to guess what was on his mind. His advice (often unsolicited) and opinion (even less often solicited) was always plentiful and will be sorely missed, as will his impish grin and honest laugh. He was not only a character, but he was loved. And, amazingly, he survived all 66 years having never been wrong.
Memorials may be made to Desoto Cemetery, c/o Ann Jones, 1964 MC 6042, Yellville, AR 72687.
All service information will be provided by the family.

My heart goes out to all the family, Terry will be missed. My prayers are with the family.

Terry was my cousin. He was always good to me. His mom, Aunt Mary, used to keep my brother Bryan and I after school some, when they lived across the street there. Terry had a basketball goal behind the house and a hog pen I remember. Terry was a great basketball player.

I remember the first time I met Terry. It was summer, and there was a family gathering in or near Yellville. Your mom invited Bob and me to meet Terry. There was a stock car race and a trip to the hilltop diner, if I remember correctly. Your mom was beautiful -- naturally, she's a Benton -- and Terry was handsome, with a full head of hair. The main thing I remember was that he was so friendly and unpretentious. He had a winning smile, and being around him was easy. It's no wonder your mom was attracted to him. He had charm and magic. Maybe he was born with it.
That was 40-something years ago. It's hard to recall all of the details. But, I remember Terry's charisma -- that's what you call it.
I'll always remember his generous spirit.
He will be missed.

Terry was always nice to me as a underclassmen in High school, if face I never saw him be a bully to anybody to school regardless of of what class they were in.
