Joe Donald Walker, age 87, of Yellville, Arkansas passed away Wednesday September 11, 2019.
Joe was born July 25, 1932 in Dallas, Texas to the late Ira Neal and Hattie Elberta (Prater) Walker. He was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean War. Joe and his wife, Fran, were founding members of Church on the Rock in Yellville where Joe served as an elder. He was responsible for starting the Marion County Gideon Camp. As a Gideon, he loved to distribute bibles to the youth in the area. Joe enjoyed Friday night races at North Central Arkansas Speedway; working on cars and engines, especially Chevrolets. He even fabricated tools to work on cars. He loved his family, and his dogs Rosie and Copper.
Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Fran, of the home; one son Bill Collins and his wife, Mary, of Harrison, Arkansas; three daughters: Caren Perkins and her husband, Mitch, of Yellville, Arkansas; Dana Walker Miller and her husband, Gary, of Texas; Dena Walker Bartholomew and her husband, Ken, of Durant, Oklahoma; his sister Maureen Bledsoe of Texas; thirteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Lisa, and his brothers: Neal, Jere, and Jon.
Visitation will be Noon 2:00 pm Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Church on the Rock in Yellville, Arkansas.
Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Saturday September 14, 2019 at Church on the Rock with Bro. Kevin Duffy officiating.
Interment with military honors will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery near Yellville.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Photides, Clinton Photides, Matthew Photides, Patrick Morris, Lance Collins, and Jim Bass.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Adam Bartholomew, Shannon Schroder, and Justin Schroder.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks Hospice House, or to Gideon's International.
