I met and served in the navy with Earl from 1963-64. He was a LT at the time and senior watch officer on the USS Cony DDE-508 home ported in Norfolk VA.
Earl was a hard task master and worked hard to ensure all the junior officers learned the navy way
Earl attended the last 2 USS Cony wardroom reunions in VA. He had mellowed with age and was good company .
Achieving the Rank of Captain in the US-Navy was a tremendous achievement . Earl hope you have calm seas and warm winds in your face.

In the short time I knew Earl I grew to respect his ability and intellect. He told me enough about his youth and career that I knew he was one in a million. Few men rise from helper in a railroad junction to common seaman and on to Captain in the US Navy. ?The nation needs more men like Earl.
I am sorry to hear that he is gone I offer condolences to his family.

My uncle Earl Russell was a man we admired and who's company we always enjoyed. He will be missed. A special thanks to Kevin and Ruth for the care they gave Captain Russell in his later years.
